Vulcha
I've been offered by a mate at work to go lamping on tuesday. I've agreed to go, but now i need a lamp. I was thinking of a hand-held one, becuase there are three of us going. So, any tips for lamping? Any advice on the lamp? Thanks in advance Mike

markbivvy
just get out and enjoy it then. get a cheap rechargable lamp for now. if you take to it buy a good one between you. learn it as you go. its not the end of the world if you make a few mistakes, theres allways another night. and another rabbit. ckbraider
Just have fun and be careful, should be a good night, if your looking for a cheap lamp my first ever hand held was a cheap draper lamp which are availiable from these cheap shops ie hyper value etc, it did the job and as said earlier its pointless buying a good un as you may not like lamping, the draper lamps are about 6 quid i believe
Vulcha
So they should be easy to get localy? How long do they last for? I really hope this happens. My mate is a bit of a goon when it comes to organising things.
ckbraider
should be well easy to get, if your local hypervalue doesnt have them try a hardware shop, or even one of those cheap tool stalls you find in the market

Jon-Boy
start the lamp pointing in the sky and slowly bring it down, less likely to spook em that way. Homebase do cheap 1 million candle power lamps
Paul in North Lincs.
My first lampin kit was a 2 quid lamp adapted for a car fag lighter. With this cut off, I split the wires and attatched it to a small 12v motor bike battery, which was slung in a small satchall and comfortably carried...........just the job!! Paul in North Lincs. Devilishdave
You are using the cover of darkness as comoflage! Try and make as little noise as possible, always lift your feet out of the grass whare possible, dont shuffel. Remember to start at the down wind end of your permission and you should have a good night. I would be a bit warey of going out lamping with three guns especialy if your m8 is a cluster as you said. Once you have got a rabbit in the lamp, if you kneed to get closer either turn of the lamp and approach or drop the beam of to the side of the rabbit so you can still see it in the shaddows and approach that way. the first method is better if you are having to think about battery conservation which is of course a consideration even for the best kitted out lamper. Good luck, Dave
Vulcha
especialy if your m8 is a cluster as you said. What do you mean by that? Theres gonna be me, one guy holding my lamp and the other guy has a lamp on his gun.
Guest Mr Pieman
Vulcha, I don't like lamps on guns. You have to pouint the gun at something to see if you want to shot it or not. If you think '******, there's a person', you make that decision whilst pointing a loaded weapon at them!! I like the lamps separate - just my own opinion. Its also a pet hate of mine that people scan fields etc using their rifle scopes - again pointing a loaded firearm at a potentially 'friendly' target. My mate is a bit of a goon when it comes to organising things. Just you said your m8 is a goon at organising things! It should be safe enough if you stand together but if you split in to two groups it can be difficult to keep track of eachother in the dark so there is a safety issue. The less people lamping the better less people less noise, less smell and more rabbits per lamper. but you might kneed some one to carry them for you enjoy Dave
Vulcha
That, Mr.P, is a damn good point! I think I will get a seperate lamp. Devilsihdace, I'll try and make sure we all stay in one group. I don't fancy shooting someone or being shot!
Jon-Boy
How big is your shoot? If quite a large area and landowner permitting you may want to use a 4x4 (if available) You can then use a fag lighter adapter to power your lamp, no worries about battery life then. Also a good method for chasing down rabbits and covering alot of ground. Again only good if the land area is big enough and suitable

Vulcha
Isn't three acres the minimun required for a rimmy?
Jon-Boy
Would be a bit more than three acres i would have thought, also depends on the surrounding features, roads etc.
