Horrocks
I bet this forum has seen this question posed so many times before, but i am split rather neatly between my heart and my wallet... The question is.... Do i buy an attractive CZ american in .17 HMR that wont break the bank, or a Sako Quad in .17HMR that will, but that i love the look of? I've looked at a mates Finnfire in .22lr and loved it, so the Sako seemed the natural choice being based on the same action, but can i really justify the cost if i can get the CZ for half the price? Is the Sako that much better? I'm sure theres owners of both out there, could you weigh up the options please, i've found myself incapable of adult reasoning. Are worries about the accuracy of the CZ's actually legit? or is it just a brill rifle? I'd really appreciate any input from those who own them, sorry if any of you get deja vu. thanks
tulkyuk
dont discount the Whierauch HW60J or 66j either, shoot as good as any Anshultz and better than a CZ or Sako quad for the same kind of cash as the quad.
LXX73
Check out the CZ 17HMR Style or Silouette both in synthetic stock similiar to the Sako Quad styling.
Horrocks
I'm afraid i like wood on a gun, So its more about wether the CZ actually shoots that well, or as well as the Sako..... And does the CZ American in walnut look that good in the flesh?
magman
dont discount the Whierauch HW60J or 66j either, shoot as good as any Anshultz and better than a CZ or Sako quad for the same kind of cash as the quad. so thats why you sold yours and put in for a mach 11 Go cz mate will do all thats asked of it and more
Admiral Von Tirpitz
Only ever owned a CZ American, had it since June, never owned a rimfire before, I have killed rabbits out to nearly 200 yards on a straight aim, gun looks good, sure there are better looking and generally better guns out there, but it works for me just fine. Make sure you get a good scope and silencer.
LXX73
My mate shoots a CZ Varmint with wooden stock. Shoots and handles well. I was in the same predicament and went with the CZ as couldn't justify spending the extra cabbage on the Sako as I dont think theres a massive difference between the two. tweedledee
i went for the hw60j,it felt so much better than the cz but thats just my opinion.
Horrocks
I dont like the HW 60's looks, the hog back and the size of the mag, this really is between the quad and the CZ american, both in .17HMR, I'd really like to know if the CZ is a nice accurate and pleasant to use gun, i know the Sako is but im shy of the expense because i'll need a nice sight too, and the Sako price will limit me. The accuracy of a Sako is what i'm looking for, is the CZ a legitimate contender? is it as good as people say it is? or should i stick with the Sako? thanks
magman
HMR well lets see if anyone can put three 5 shot groups up at 100 yrds less than 1/2 " Could go anshutz but will this gun do it ,no The round is factory produced so you will get the odd flyer ,something you have to get used too im afraid . Go CZ i did and cannot complain
LXX73
Go with the CZ as it will give up nothing in accuracy compared to the Sako and spend the change on a scope.
rimfire4969
I went for the CZ, i am very pleased with how it shoots. It does the job easily.

coupe312
if the reason you like the sako is the finfire. don't buy the quad.... there a good gun but know where near the quality feel of the finfire. as far as the cz goes. in 17hmr there spot on. i have the finfire in 22rf and the cz in 17hmr. the sako feels more refined but they don't make em like they used to and you don't get them in 17hmr. they both do the job better than i can......... pay your money make your pick but i must say nothing wrong with the cz.... well at not least in 17hmr format

Horrocks
Are moderators available for the 22.5 length barrels, or do you have to get the 16 inch to have threading. Are there over barrel moderators for these rifles?

Horrocks
Right, its the CZ american in .17 HMR for me. I've decided after an earlier pose to whop a Leupold 6.5-18x40 scope on top of this, i'll be shooting rabbits from 30 to 150 yards with it, is this a good ensemble, or is it over scoping the rifle for the closer shots? Thanks H
tulkyuk
so thats why you sold yours and put in for a mach 11 Go cz mate will do all thats asked of it and more Sold mine because it wasnt getting used at the time, I have still got a 17HMR and a 17Mach II on my ticket (actually swapped out a CZ452 .22lr to get the Mach II ), but will swap one of the 17's out for a 20BR i think. CZ shoot well enough ( not in the same league as Annie or whierauch though), but they also look and feel cheap IMHO. Horrocks
Do the CZ's look and feel cheap even with the walnut stock? don't worry about the synthetic, i wouldnt touch that with a long pole H
tulkyuk
Some look ok - but most do not have that nice look - trouble is what can you expect from a gun that cost £300 The New Sako Quad with the timber stock, beavertail forend & heavy barrel looks and feels nice though. Horrocks
I was wondering wether that would be too heavy with a sight, mod and bipod on it?
