stalking rifle

paul,

I think you mean thompson center icon, right? Not contender? the contender is a single shot break action rifle. If you want a really light rifle, a contender with a thin contour 16" barrel and light stock would be about as light as you can make one. I don't know much about the icon.

Personally, I've got a rem 700 ADL 30-06 from the 70's that is as great a deer rifle as any. Light, shoots straight, can't complain.

Thanks

Rick

I use a Tikka T3 in 6.5x55 for my stalking activities. It's a nice handling and accurate gun for not too much money, and the trigger seems pretty crisp. Buying a cheaper rifle allows you to spend more on the optics, which seem to be the more important part of the kit. Most rifles will out shoot you, but a second rate scope will ruin many a stalk if the light starts to fade on you before you're done :)

Take a look at the ruger M77 mark 11 scout rifle .Light weight and accurate . They are more popular in .308 and are generally advertised in 30 calibre but i am sure they are available in .243 . When you see one you will wet your pants . I know i did and i bought one . Harnser .
