myzeneye
but you cant come in. been out again this afternoon, knocking on doors..... pigeons EVERYWHERE......... still no joy, the closest i got was a "leave me your number and ill put it on the board in the office...." i suppose thats better than all the other " no, we already have someone thanks..." i got... i guess theres not much reason for them to be concerned at the moment, but in a few weeks when they turn the soil and re-seed ill be back out there knocking... im gonna book a whole day off work and not come home till someone says yes... may even take my gear with me in the boot just incase !!! seisobs
Keep trying mate. My favorite saying is "If you don't ask, you don't get". Good luck.
proTOM1
If you have rape around you keep a watch on it i find that the next few months are the best to get permission when the birds are hitting the rape hard ! good look and dont give up
Cranfield
may even take my gear with me in the boot just incase !!! That may not be a good idea. Don't turn up in full cammo, or all ghillie suited up. Look reasonably smart to give the best impression possible, most Farmers are quite "old fashioned" about things like that (well they are in Kent). myzeneye
cheers for the support... no worries cranfield (mate) i dont intend to go cammed up... i know the score on that one... the no's are just so hard to take when you can see huge flocks of pigeons hiiting the land... flighting in from every direction... whenb they repy with "we've already got a guy who comes..." i have to bite my tongue from saying "well he's not here now and he's not doing a very good job by the looks of it !!!" i just have to count to ten and smile politely... i may change tack when i get this reply and respond with "would there be no chance of you allowing another responsible lad to share it whislt it seems so heavy with birds ?" i need to know how to develop the conversation and turn things my way because most of the time, "we've already got someone..." is, on their behalf, end of conversation... buckfast d
Read through this, http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...showtopic=56695 think about doing up actual business cards are even A5 size flyers and cards if this is done professionaly then i tell you my friend you should have no problem Maybe start your chat to the farmer like,, good morning Sir i know farming is a very busy business, but could you spare just 2 minutes of your valuable time for me, you may have someone or several people already (handing over YOUR business card at this point) but i have noticed lots of pigeons/vermin destroying your crops,, i'll leave the rest up to you but try you and do all the talking at the end of the day your trying to sell your business to the farmer. If at any point he says no, just turn and smile politely (and give him the puppy dog eyes) at him and say i'm sorry Sir for wasting your time but if it's ok with you i may call back in the near future and turn and walk off, maybe patting the farm dog as you go or smiling and waving to one of the other workers on the farm i tell you my friend all this really does work good luck
seb
I tried at a horse stables today, there are loads of rabbits there at night running out when you drive past. I asked the woman in charge and she was shocked I actually wanted to shoot something for free and that I enjoyed doing it, then said no. She was busy feeding the pigeons there were loads! She probably feeds the rabbits also. It is crazy when you can see a problem and offer to help and they say no.
MR.LAG
I totally agree with you seb its the worst feeling, theres somthing soooo close but you just cant have it Thats the thing i hate the most, when they give you the look of *!why would you want to shoot them!* and they go and take care of them. let me tell you they wont be acting like that when theres too many "cute" little bunnies running around! scout
Hi mate If they're getting hit hard whilst you're there ask for that day only and then let the farmer know how you got on ( assuming its well ), this may get your foot in the door for at least another days shooting, and when you have built up some trust you just never know............ Scout Ps Happy hunting I know just how frustration it can be, but if you keep at it eventually you'll find someone who will want you to shoot. buckfast d
well you've got something special lad!!!!!!! your a heating engineer, mention also to the farmer that you could service his bolier, he gives you something, then you give him something swings and round abouts this is how i got in to some good ground, i do a bit of electrical work a long with refrigeration and the farmer asked me for a price to put a flood light up for him and showed me where he wanted it and where the elecrical panel was etc etc,, so i by chance arrived when he wasn't there carried the work out and put the bill through his door and wrote on it Parts and labour costs for yard flood light free of charge, just ring me on 0*73******1 if you need any vermin control carried out about 5 hours went by and no phone call then a private number showed up and it was him,, he was delighted and said to come down straight away he wanted to chat when i got down he fired me £100 which where two 50's and said to shoot what ever part of his land i wanted, i threw him back his money but he threw it back to me so we settled for £50 and the right to shoot his ground so there you go sometimes it's worth overing good luck
