casts_by_fly
Hi All, I thought I'd give a quick trip update. A group of us fished a stretch of the Test Saturday for greyling. It was a great day to be out (if a little windy) and the weather held off perfectly. I wouldn't have minded a few more clouds in the sky as the fish were a little skittish when the sun was high, but we still had fun. I managed a dozen and a half and my wife got another 8-10. Most all greyling in the 12-16" range. I got one that was 19" and nearly 2lb. I also caught a couple browns that were over 20" and 3 lb. Plenty of fish in the water. You could see a bunch of big trout still hanging around and I saw one swim past (a big male) that would have been over 24" and would have pushed 6-7lb. There weren't as many greyling visible like they were last year. It was still sight fishing all day with nymphs but the sun was making them tuck into more cover. All in all a great day out. I wiill try to get some pictures up and posted when I get them onto my computer. Thanks, Rick
Cranfield
Sounds like a good day out and I admire you sticking to nymph fishing. I have fished the stretch at Timsbury a few times and be very happy to trot a stick float through picking up grayling, roach, chub and trout. There are also some large pike in that stretch, which usually show themselves. Look forward to seeing some pics.

Whitebridges
Looking forward to the pics. I've fished at Wherwell on the carriers and main river with Paul Procter and Howard C. Corking grayling fishing this time of year. We had problems with the trout though. We caught on a size 20 pink f fly and para emergers. Dunkield
I fished Timsbury after a tip-off from Cranners, and then realised I had fished the other (posh) bank many years before. I tied some pink based flies after reading Grayling like them, lent my mate one, and he promptly landed a big brownie
casts_by_fly
hi Guys, We were downstream a ways below the priory. Small place so that's about as specific as I'll get. The area is one bank, no wading, fly fishing only. A maggot with a pin would be just too easy. Basically if you can see the fish and put a good cast in front of it, the fish will eat the fly. Killer bugs type flies and scuds in creme/pink are the ticket on this section for grayling. I've just seen the timsbury website. Good deal for the price. Any idea how many people they let on in a day for grayling? That's a ways downstream from where we were and should be a bit bigger water. I like fishing big water and it should be nice. Can't beat the price really. Thanks, Rick
Cranfield
Nice pictures, the Test is certainly a beautiful place. I don't know what the limit on numbers is at Timsbury, but I have fished it in a group of 12 and there was plenty of room , with only a couple "setting up camp" and the rest of us roving about. The feeder stream there can take all day to fish, without going near the main river.
