GJUK
Morning all, About 4, or 4 1/2 years ago I went to see my GP about depression (when my grandpa died) and for about a year or so was on anti depresents. I stopped taking these about 3 years ago and have never been to the doctor again regading this problem - right as rain now. I've read a few accounts of how people have gotten on with getting a SGC with depression (which I don't have any more) but im a bit worried now. The doctor is a family friend, perhaps I should speak to him before I submit my request. Anyway, how to my odds look towards getting a licence please ? Thanks! Catamong
Why don't you ask him to countersign your application and submit a covering letter in support? As for your chances, a lot will depend upon what he says. Good luck. Cat.
GJUK
Now thats a good idea. I will try for that. Thanks.
Cushat
Whatever you do, be honest about it. Nothing is more likely to block your sgc than if you try and keep it quiet and the FLO finds out later! Top idea from Cat - grab the bull by the horns and get your GP to write a covering letter detailing the reasons behind your depression and that you've had no relapse in 3 years. henry d
I`ve been in a similar position and the FLO went to my GP direct and no problems, as Cushat has said, don`t hold anything back.

David BASC
Agree 100% with Henry D, this shoud not make any diffeence - been there too and had no issues at renewal of SGC or FAC, but did take the time ot go see the Doc when my renewal was due just to check what he thought though, just in case plod decided to call him up. GJUK
Thanks David. Seems to make sense to be up front about everything (which I was always going to do) and see my doctor to make him aware of my application, get his views and see if he could countersign the document for me. Cheers all. Jon
drut
"I`ve been in a similar position and the FLO went to my GP direct and no problems, as Cushat has said, don`t hold anything back. good.gif" Good advice. I suffered from depression following being injured in an accident and stated this on my application(and also I was fully recovered). Police wrote to my doctor who confirmed this & no problem. Hope all goes well for you.
