Marine1980
Just wondering if anyone has advice on ticks ...... ! My husband works our springer at the weekend, and ive just been cleaning out his 'space' (the dogs that is) and found huge swollen ticks all over the floor. Lovely! Ive given it a good clean, but now im itching all over thinking they may have jumped onto me and could have infested our house, not sure if this is possible?? Can anyone help put my mind at rest!! Cranfield
Your dog needs treating regularly with Frontline, or a similar Tick/Flea treatment, if you are finding ticks on the floor that sounds like a serious infestation. The ticks shouldn't bother you, but they can have eggs in dogs bedding, carpets, fabrics, etc. You can purchase cleaning products from Pet Shops or Vets to clear these areas. al4x
Not strictly true, ticks loose round the house are not a good idea as they can pass Lymes disease if they feed on you. Best option though as said is make sure the dog is regularly treated with either Frontline or stronghold as this will kill them when they feed from the dog. It should be rarer during the winter but you tend to get problems in areas with lots of deer or sheep and long grass. Start by washing all the bedding and a good clean out plus you can get household sprays to treat areas in the house the dog has been and start a regular flea and tick routein
the_commoner
i had a major problem with ticks 2 summers ago, i regularly frontline my cocker and have a tick remover bought for about £2 from the vets, i am totally paranoid about the bloody things and check her everytime we have been out, i regularly check and dose her bedding which has managed to reduce them to the odd one or two every now and then hate the bloody horrible things once they have jumped off the host they lay and the process starts again, so make sure you give eveything a very good clean
MC
I use Frontline combo on my dog, Not only does it kill off ticks and fleas it makes them sterile so even if they do just drop off and lay eggs they do not hatch. In nearly 3 years now he has not had a tick for more than a day.
mez75
I also use frontline combo on my two cockers & only find dead or dying ticks on them, I remove any that do manage to latch on with O'tom tick removers.
