GJUK
I've been told that legally you can not carry a shotgun and ammo in a car at the same time. Is this correct? I have also been told that everyone does it so its 'not a problem'. It's no one on here that has told me that, just a friend in Wales who has a SGC that I've been asking hundreds of questions to! I want to be 100% legal all the time, even if taking these silly steps are required. Thanks Jon
Edward
I think you are, you not supposed to store them together. Oh and PIDGEONS does not have a 'D' in it Edited November 3, 2008 by EdwardtheloneShooter
Ferret Master
It is legal. How would you propose ever going shooting anywhere otherwise? FM
henry d
You asked your friend if it was legal to carry a shotgun and ammunition together in a car ?? If you excuse the pun, it`s a loaded question !!
GJUK
Thanks for noticing my spelling error - not my forte. Thanks for the replies; I am all new to this shooting thing so I'm just trying to find out what is true and what is false. Cheers.
Newsportshooter
Mate your absolutely fine to carry gus and ammo in the same vehicle. As someone has already mentioned it would be impractical any other way. Check out the direct copy from the home office legislation below and if your really worried click on the link to see the document (page 111) 19.47 Any guns should be hidden, preferably in the locked boot or other secured load carrying area of the vehicle where practicable. Vehicles used frequently for transporting firearms should ideally have an immobiliser and/or alarm fitted, if the firearms are to be left unattended. 19.48 If the vehicle is left unattended for any reason, firearms should be concealed, preferably in the locked luggage compartment and (where practicable), an essential component such as the bolt or fore-end removed and kept in possession of the responsible person. Where possible any ammunition should be stored separately from the firearm and this too should be concealed from view. The vehicle should be locked, and any immobiliser or alarm should be set. If possible, the vehicle should be parked within the sight of the responsible person. urikastu
Part of the shotgun code of practice!! Safety whilst travelling Always transport a shotgun in its case or in a protective gun cover. If guns and cartridges have to be left in a vehicle, put them out of sight and always take some small, vital part of the gun eg the fore-end away with you. Always leave a vehicle locked, even if unattended only for a short time. Never travel with a loaded shotgun.
