Vulcha
After finally buying a gun cabinet, getting an application and wonga ready to send off for my shotgun certificate, I have come across a problem. Do I need a reference form or do they only want a counter signature? I'm not sure if its only a firearms certificate they want the two reference forms for, or if they want it for a shotgun certificate aswell. Would someone please tell me if I need them or not? GJUK
I've just sent mine off and got a dental surgeon to sign mine off (a lady that I always use for my passports...). Read the application form - it's all explained on there. You need 4 photos also, 1 signed by you and 1 by the counter signer.
Ferret Master
For an SGC one person who is of a prominent role in the community is all you need. My doctor signed mine with no problems at all as he is a shooting man. However I think that for FAC you need 2 references however they can just be people that have known you for a while and can be a good judge of your character. Someone please correct me if that's wrong. FM
Vulcha
I see. Also, do you need a seprate cartridge storage box?
Ferret Master
Not for shotgun cartridges however out of sight such as a wardrobe is best. FM
Vulcha
Wow. They seem rather more relaxed with shotguns than they do other firearms. So, fill out the application, with a countersignature, enclose a cheque of £50, send it off. Install the cabinet with some wired plugs, give the firearms officer some tea and biscuits when they come round to check it and everything should be gravy? Its down to range which shotguns lack so dont need restricting as much. The FAO will just want to be certain you're gonna be responsible and you will ensure the guns security.Buying and installing a gun cabinet beforehand is a good idea as he/she will be able to inspect it during the interview and will speed up the whole process.Just make sure you use rawlbolts or resin bonded threaded bar if the (external) wall is unsound. As for locking cartridges away-i have several hundred sitting ontop of wardrobe! Out of the way of children is fine.

Vulcha
Got my mate who's an accountant to sign mine today. Do I have to fill out part B, about where the shotguns will be housed? Edited November 8, 2008 by Vulcha
V8landy
Yes, just state along the lines of "in my house (address) in a gun cabinet to Police approved standards" You do not have to be to specific.

V8landy
But you do not need to state where and how you will fix it. Just state it will be in your house, (idealy out of sight) and to Police standards.

Just state it will be in your house, (idealy out of sight) and to Police standards. Oh well I left it blank. Perhaps I should have put "on the roof under cammo net..."
