millo2
Just been on the phone to my mam back in Cumbria to see if my local rugby team were setting off to play and she was telling me of the destruction the weather caused in Cumbria last night. Loads of tiles have come off our roof, and all the fencing around our gardens is down (except the bit which forms part of the dog pen- expertly reinforced by yours truly). And one of our big trees looks like its on its last legs. My dog had to be taken inside the garage lol because he hates the wind and whimpers, yet does not bother when an eight bore goes off above his head in a hide. My next door neighbours roof has come off and wrecked his car, along with one of the lads who is playing rugby. Trees are down everywhere and every river in Cumbria is on flood warning. There has been ten HGV's turned on the M6 yet the rugby team decided to travel, stupidity or dedication you decide, lets just hope the bus doesnt turn. Has anyone else been affected? As an environmental biologist I find these worrying signs as to whats going to happen in the future. Records show that this is the worse weather in Cumbria for 40 years, and the way we are going its probably going to get worse Nothing more powerful than nature

apbuild
That was the re-make of the invisible man Jess. I knew it had another name. Good film. Anyhow, the weather here in Oxford is very windy yet dry and bright. I should have been on a pheasant shoot today, but I am suffering again with excruciating sciatica in my left leg. Been off all week waiting for a call to go for a scan. Hope the boy's are having a good time.

apbuild
Millo, what do you expect from our weather in the coming years. I think that the seasons have already shifted. When I was a boy, the winter months were Dec, Jan, Feb. Now it is more Feb, March, April.
millo2
A lot more rain and milder winters resulting in much more flooding
apbuild
people who live in low lying areas should be worried then. Imagine having your home flooded out year after year.
millo2
Inevitable really. It will get warmer too, but gradully, plus an ice age is years away anyway, we're in the middle of a cycle
Devilishdave
If all the Icebergs in the sea melt tommorow the sea level wont raise one inch; Fact. The ice already in the water displaces its own weight of water their for when it melts it takes up less space (exactly the space of ice that was under the water)!! millo2
Correct dave, it is actually the on-land ice that will make the difference

But it seems to be getting warmer every year , I have noticed this in my job as a groundsman ie the grass is still growing , daisy,s and daffs are coming up at the moment and we never seem to get the cold weather like we used to and im only talking 10 years or so ago . Devilishdave
No point in pannick mongering over the weather. For every storey of doom and gloom it is all our own doing, there is a story or paper to say that the weather is just part of the natural cycle of weather. Devilishdave
I am a bit ****** off that 1/4 of all the trees on my permission are over. Mostly Connifers. looking at the root base it is neither wonder they toppeld. The ground is so wet and soft and the relatively large surface areas of these trees and their foliage must put a massive force on the root system. Some of the Conifers with strong roots that were in fairly open areas have just snaped 1/2 way up the trunk!! Verry few Deciduose trees were down. I was out lamping in it last night and it was bad but not that bad. It must have realy gone up a gear after I called it a night.
