scotttomo
Hello all hope you can help Right here goes. I'm looking to upgrade my current scope which is a Nikko sterling gold crown airking 4-12x42. I got this included in the deal when i bought my Superten BBk. The reasons for upgrading are that having flip up covers is ace, especially so no dust e.t.c can get onto the lenses, but i find changing the parallax on the front of this particular scope can be a pain in the *** if you want to keep the flip-ups on!! So the upgrade would need a side parallax adjuster. And although the scope is ok for practicing getting my grouping better and despatching of the flying rats in our works warehouse, i would like something with a higher mag and clearer vision in lower light situations, as i'm looking at using the scope for lamping as well as daytime shooting (when i get the permissions ) I'm working on a budget of upto 200 pound for the scope and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? Also, although i understand the numbers associated with the magnification and objective lense size, i'm a bit confuddled about the number of different recticule options and different abbreviations following some specs of scopes, so i was wondering if someone could shed some light on what these all mean too?! So far i know: IR: illuminated recticule MD: mil dot but thats about it I hope this all makes sense as i know my grammar isn't the best so thanks in advance for reading this rather long post . Best regards, a noob in need, Scott

AndyBaz
MTC Viper would be choice for a great package. Sounds like you got the specks down but take a look at airgunbuyer for their pages on scopes ad that should fill in the gaps. Vipers are on ebay. Tobyb525
Go to basspro.com and order from the usa, its a fraction of the price! I got a center point 3-19x42 for around £40!

scotttomo
Hi all thanks for the replies much appreciated Sorry henry d thought i'd posted in the right place The viper looks like a great scope and i'm swaying towards it but have also been looking at the Nikko Sterling platinum nighteater range. Has anybody used any of these scopes? Are they any good for the money? Or should i bite the bullet and get a viper? Or alternatively has anyone got any other suggestions? Thanks again, Scott Edited November 27, 2008 by scotttomo

bullet boy
Scott,as i said previously, the Viper is a superb optic and i myself would pick it over the Nikko, although this is a fab scope too-it depends on your pocket at the end of the day....... scotttomo
Cheers bullet boy the Viper i was looking at is a full 50 quid more than my initial budget, but i suppose when you factor in the fact the mounts,flip-up covers, sunshade and sidewheel all come with the viper, it turns out to be similar to what i'd prob spend on the mounts and flip-ups for the Nikko! Suppose a little more saving is in order Thanks again, Scott
Dave-G
I have had two MTC Mamba's (3-12x44) Which I understand have smaller turrets but few differences in optical quality. They don't do low-light very well, it seems very difficult to see the ground, be it grass or soil in the dark with a lamp when I use them, and thats on the lowest mag setting. They cannot be used at half mag without something like the main beam of your car to help it. They just dont come close to any of the Bushnell elite's I've had - nor my Burris LaserScope, nor even some of the much cheaper ones I've tried on the light transmission side. Yes the named ones are more expensive, but the poster has indicated he needs something for low light and lamping. Most of the my scopes get replaced because my eyes are deterioating and I am experimenting with different reticules, along with the need to try something else. It's fair to say there are many I have not tried because I don't know how thick the reticule is. My next scope purchase will probably be a Bushnell elite with a multi X ret. scotttomo
Cheers Dave-G interesting bout the lack of low light visibility with the MTC viper. Anybody else got any suggestions/advice? Thanks in advance again, Scott
