In process of clearing out the loft, he came accross a shotgun - been there 25 years, from when he last held a certificate. My own advice is to hand it in urgently at a Police Station, before it gets worse. I recollect a similar thread some months ago - if someone could direct me to it. Newsportshooter Posted November 24, 2008 Report Share Posted November 24, 2008 Personally, I would call the police (non urgent local phone line) and have the call logged - Explain the situation and ask them to collect it for you. Make sure you have a log number for the call, especially if they ask you to take it to the station (and you get stopped on route....). Once in the hands of the police you have two options 1.) if the gun is not worth anything then basically sign a waiver and it will be destroyed. 2.) if the gun has value you will have a very limited ammount of time to get someone with a shot gun certificate (ideally a registered firearms dealer) to collect it from the police, arange with the police to collect it from them with said authorised person and bobs your uncle. Hope this helps. No matter what you do I would suggest you phone the old bill and let them know the situation (get a log number for the call) and go from there...
