Blackbart
Nice write up john.I have been out twice this week bagging 94,95,96 and number 97.It was hard going last night, seen plenty but they wouldnt play ball, either running the second the lamp hit them or doing the dissapear up their own backside trick as they walk past a tree or something.Thats got to be the most common saying in people who lamp foxes "Where the **** did that go"

Blackbart
The first thing new shooters need to learn is the contents of the excuse book, you must never, ever be caught flat footed as to why a shot didn't come off. There's never been a recorded case of mercy from other shooters in this instance Bart, can I come on my holidays to your place please? Ninety seven foxes is some going. I don't think it'd be possible in one year on my permission. They're pure genius at vanishing, I don't know how they do it but when they go behind something I always think awwwww ****! I've had my orange filter for a fair while but only properly gave it a go this week, had excellent results, worth a try if you've not used one? If you are over this way john you are very welcome to come out for a night or two lamping.I have one very good piece of land that is 2 adjacent farms but one of them has 5 chicken sheds on it (think chicken run the movie)with 40,000 chickens in them.So you can imagine how much of a draw this is to foxes, they must be able to smell it from miles away.We have taken the majority of foxes around these two farms with about 30 from another two that i shoot on 10mile from it.Seeing foxes is gauranteed and we have only had 1 blank night in the last 3 month where they just either stayed out of range or as you well know vanished as we got in a better position to shoot. I havent tried an orange filter yet, what does it do to the distance on the lamp ?The blue works ok but nocks a lot off distance

Highlander
John a question...why when it's dark this time of year at what 16.00/16.30 do you guys wait until so late top go out. I'm back in bed by then I use an orange filter (I have all the colours but use orange as it seems the best) both on rabbits and foxes. .243 for foxes, it doesn't take prisoners even if the shots a little off. Great write ups, good reading, keep 'em coming. Edited December 18, 2008 by Highlander

Dead-Eyed Duck
I always use an amber filter too John, unless it's a very dark night and I know that the sod I'm after is lamp shy - I use a red filter then. I usually use a battery pack with a dimmer unit too. I've tried blue and green filters but not found them to be of any benefit. Don
