whats the best way i can ferret an old rail way bank? its covered in brambles so purse netting is impossible, i have a locator but im still worried i coudl lose a ferret i have a long net aswell but im still not sure if its a good idea or not even though there is a stupid amount of rabbits living in there any help would be much appreciated

 

i will try and get a few pics of it this weekend so you can see what im dealing with

If you have sole access to this area, it would be worth clearing the area just around the holes to make purse netting easier.

You would be wise not to net the earths for a week, after the disturbance of the clearing up operation.

 

Alternatively, you could clear an area for your long nets.

 

If there are a lot of earths to be covered, you would be wise to enlist some help.

I don't understand why you are concerned that you might lose a ferret.

If you have a locator and some help, it should be OK.

I and a friend ferreted a railway bank on a local farm that i shoot on. But we were not netting and were covering the area with shotguns. And my mates ferret finder messed up as the battery's were going low on power, so anyway ended up digging 2-1/2 foot on a railway bank to a false location. so that night we set his live catch trap up and luckly the night after the ferret was in there! :oops:

 

The reward can be grate, but there is a risk doing it as it is not a nice material to dig through! :good:
