reedbradshaw
Below is a link to a instruction manual for a new gun i have just purchased...Winchester 1200 pump action. its a PDF file and its quite big so may take a while to load. http://media.winchesterguns.com/pdf/om/model1200_om_s.pdf Notice how it gives clear step by step instructions how to "remove" the plug so the magazine will hold 5 shots rather than 2. Isnt this a little irresponsible? before anyone starts throwing accusations about....i wont be doing this !!! 1. becausei like my freedom and dont think jail would really be my thing.... 2. Due to my youth i think i would be used as money in jail 3. My hands have never got dirty so therefore my mechanical knowledge is zero ( im serious here ! ) What are your thoughts on this ? al4x
they're a global company and you're looking at the Instructions for the American market where they need to be able to limit shots to stay within their laws. Over here the onus is on the holder of the shotgun certificate to stay within the law. Convert yours to 5 shot and get caught and you will loose your license its fairly simple
MC
Under UK law your gun should have a certificate with it to say that it cannot hold more than 3 cartridges. These certificates are normally issued by the proof house where the gun was proofed. Also the magazine should be fixed to the gun and crimped so it cannot just be altered. My Extrema will hold 3 21/2" carts in the magazine but as Al4x says, it is only illegal if you do it and get caught. I have yet to see the fascination with multi shot auto's anyway. (other than practical shotgun and the like)
reedbradshaw
My license means a lot to me...i dont intend to lose it over something like this so i will not be carrying it out...as stated in my first post!! I am applying for a FAC though...IF i was to put down on a variation for a 5shot SG....would i be able to carry it out myself (if i could, as before im rubbish with mechanics etc) or would this have to be undertaken by a gun smith ? just asking questions out of interest
reedbradshaw
ignore the last post....the magazine will be crimped !!!
al4x
p.s don't bother with a pump action unless its just for fun, get an O/U or semi auto
reedbradshaw
I allready have a O/U....i only wanted a pump action for a rough gun and at £120 i thought it was a steal for the great condition its in....i hear that auto's can be awkard and can often be clogged on the gas ports To be honest i looked at semis and all i wanted was a realible gun what could cycle any load you put through it, doesnt jam and is as reliable as they come (touch wood!)......why do you think the military and police seem to use pump action over semi auto in most cases ? that kind of swayed me towards the pump! The pump i have is supposed to be the fastest pump ( or was at time of production! ) and after trying this in the field you can easily squeeze off the 3 shots in 2-3 seconds.....it seems to me to be as quick as any semi i have shot ( all one of them! ) im happy with it though The best part about it......is the fun factor !!! may sound childish but i dont think ill ever get over the "chick chick" sound it makes......small things for small minds i suppose
reedbradshaw
and when i mean rough i mean....crawling through hedges. Something i generally couldnt give a toss about with the stock / blueing etc
al4x
semi's are generally very reliable if you get a decent one and give it minimal TLC. Pumps aren't great accuracy wise or for speed of getting the next shot away, hence they are cheap as they change hands so regularly. People buy them for fun and realise they just don't shoot that well, whereas a decent semi you can rattle 3 shots straight off without taking your head off the stock or moving your arms like a man posessed
reedbradshaw
Thanks for the comments alex I think i got the gun at a decent price so if i do get fed up of it ill hopefully be able to sell it on with out a loss......the pumping action can be done though with the head on the stock but can appreciate your comment on moving your arms like a mad man!!!! Ill be off to a local clay ground this coming Sunday (if its open!) to see how it is with 2 high fast birds to see if it really does effect my accuracy that much inbetween shots whilst pumping...no doubt i will blame it soleley on the gun as its never me at clays....its always the gun/the clays/the cartridges/the chokes....never me....never As for shooting pigeons....the ones round me must have some force field which makes them impossible to hit....again, its never me! But as you say one of the main reasons was for the fun factor.....but as long as im enjoying my shooting ill still get out there weekend after weekend
mudpatten
Er, sorry to have to disagree, but I shoot a Benelli Super Nova and I can fire it as fast as I need to. Note that I did`nt say as fast as my SBE2, but quick enough for all shooting scenarios. The action of pumping has become second nature and is done with my head firmly on the stock, and,in point of fact, it actually improves my aim for the next shot. Enjoy your pump action! Nick. Ozzy Fudd
i have a pump and a semi, a mossberg 500 and a benelli. only had the mossberg a few weeks and im still trying to get used to it, the chik chik noise is the best thing about it, followed a close second by pumping it one handed, and thirdly by the black fore end and pistol grip stock i have fitted!!
