nickwrxstiv2
Plase help me identify these crops. I don't think the are OSR so that's why I need your help! The field had wheat on it last season. Field is very large. First 2 photos are from the bottom half and the 3rd and 4th are from the top of the field. I think the first 2 may just be grass that's got on there by accident but I thought I'd better check! PS - I'd ask the farmer but he's not really a peoples person! Thanks! magman
First field wheat which can be sown 3 years on the run Second field rape
charlie 1
it is wheat and rape. if that is on the same field which was wheat last time then the wheat on the field has grown through seeds dropped when combining etc. they should spray that field with a spray soon which will kill the wheat then it will just be a rape field. nickwrxstiv2
It is the same field. The first 2 are from the bottom half of the field which is much lower than the top (last 2 photos). When will the woodies be attracted to the rape? Has it grown too much at the top of the field or not enough? Thanks for the help guys! I'm glad it's rape so at least I'e a sporting chance of the woodies coming on to my permission! magman
How big is the field ? both crops seem to of been sown so perhaps he's split the field into two different crops
nickwrxstiv2
How big is the field ?both crops seem to of been sown so perhaps he's split the field into two different crops I really don't know! At a guess I'd say it's about 450m x 250m. So that's about 28 acres. There are no bushes or trenches to devide the field at all. The whole field was wheat last year. There is a natural run off of water on the field. The bottom half of the field is generally very wet compared to the top half. I wonder if it is too wet at the minute for the OSR to take properly. charlie 1
Why ? like i said wheat can be grown on the same field three years on the run yes but you can't have two crops growing in the same part of the field. well i didn't think so anyway. and if the field has rape in it then im guessing the farmer planted it. unlike the wheat which could have grown through from last years growth. im no expert in crops but i can safely say i've never seen two crops growing amongst each other. Dave-G
Why ? like i said wheat can be grown on the same field three years on the run I think he's referring to the odd straggle of wheat growing amongst the rape.
