stevethevanman
Hi guys just got back from zeroing the HMR, and got some winchesters, remingtins and Federals to try but, found that federals were giving me sort of tight groups. So tried the others to see if they where better, but they were not, so here is my problem, shot 3 shot group and the bullets were inside 0.5". But then shot a diffrent target and the bullets were all about 1" appart . Any ideas, no Hornady in the shop at time, as this seems to be what groups best in this rifle, the Feds are pretty good, the target was 100yds away and I have a feeling that I was hitting some grass downrange, I feel this because when I raised a old ammo boy off the ground on a peice of board, I hit it square on, the box was raised 1 meter off the ground well out the way of and grass. Any ideas on what could be causing the miss grouping. Steve Edited December 24, 2008 by stevethevanman
maxwell
steve have cleaned the barrel between ammo types? are the groups inconsistant or do they move say left to right if so have you floated the barrel as Cz'stocks are oftern touching. scifiden
Cant answer your question as only had the.17 hmr for a month, but can say the Hornady ammo is brilliant, 1 inch groups at 110yds
stevethevanman
The barrel is fully floating all the way to the action, have tried the note trick ...I have probably put about I...am just guessing only 100 rounds through it so far...not alot I know, but I was able to zero my 22LR inside 100 rounds easily. It is weird, becuase after I stoped shooting, like I said I raised a box of emptys onto the barell above all the targets and hit it dead center at 100yds...so I really dont know whats going on with it...there is no movement with the scope at all, the guy at the shop fitted it, double checked it, was shooting it of bags as well, so I was rock steady? I think I just need to lead out the barrel, with some more rounds, but the chap at the shop has one, and his keeper mate has one and both use Hornadys. Got some, remmy's, winny's and Feds to use, Feds where the tightesty group, with 0.5" at 100yds but then it opened and the next 3 shot group the bullets hit 1" appart Steve

mosa
I use winchester as i was given some with rifle (cz varmint) but usually use remmingtons. I dont clean mine so zeros in a few clicks. Do you think the barrel is getting too hot ?
peck
i would suggest that if the zero moved between targets then its the hold of the gun that is causing it. ( same ammo should have same shotfall )
garyb
Are you using a bipod ?

maxwell
take your time between shots, cheers. Do you think the barrel is getting too hot ? This could give the problem you speak of Steve, you set up the target another way and the gun was bang on.
garyb
Have to checked that the barrel is still floating when on the bipod ? I had to take the sandpaper to one of mine, when we noticed that it was floating fine without the bipod, but no so with it on.
