as in the title this was my first time unsupervised (15 in november) and it was very exciting. As i had recently got some camo netting for christmas i was eager to try it out for real on the black stuff. I set up the hide the day before and arrived at about 7.30 am , about first light-ish. I parked up the quad and unloaded everything gun, cartridges decoys and tea :good::hmmm: just incase it was a little cold, and let me tell you it was bloody frezzing. I was using my beretta 686 and RC's 32gram. I set up a 3 pattern of feeding crows, spaced out evenly and concealed myself quickly in the hide.

After a slow start, and me thinking this decoying lark was too hard and that i was gonna get ****** all, i started to pour myself a cuppa, just as i started a magpie swooped into the pattern, i let him land because i didnt want to miss him and smoked him a good'un. Im glad i got him because he made me spill my tea :hmm: :hmm:

I then started to hear a caw-caw-caw in the tree above me and while i was trying to peek up, a crow was flying across from the right side of the pattern. As i popped up he shyed a little and turned away, i dropped him cleanly with the first shot and quickly reloaded, his mate up in the tree, was circling wide around the pattern and heading for the tree line, about 40 yards out, i thought i may have a go, and folded him up over the trees, and sent him crashing down the steep hill with a dull crackle as he landed in and amongst the branches.

My luck soon turned to horror as another magpie swooped into the pattern and i had both barrels and bloody missed him. :) i could not believe it, and alot of cursing followed. I then drove back up to the farm as my friend was ment to be coming over for an air rifle/ clay session and i told him what sucess i'd been having and we swiftly returned to the hide.

As the day went on we realised we were about 30 yards off a pigeon flightline, so we packed up the hide and moved across. I also brought down a bouncer which worked a treat on the crows.

Throughout the day we had alot of fun dropping most of the pigeon behind us into the wood down the steep bank, and we both had a cracking pigeon each, i had a very high one coming over the tree tops with the first barrel, and my friend proceded to nick best shot of the day with a 60 odd yard :hmm:;) crosser, which as it came i mumbled proffesionally , "too far, too far" as he popped up and dropped it stone dead. Of corse i had to keep my composure and say nice shot, but it was actually one of the best shots i have seen.

We finally packed up as the action came about once every half an hour, but we stayed for the sheer thrill of decoying :good: :good:
