Imperfection
I have a bucket outside on decking for my freeranging chickens, but also for my (odd) dog who wont drink inside house and im forever having to ensure they're not frozen.I do also dot a couple more smaller containers of water under shrubs for the chooks where its frost free. Gordon R
A mate has gone to Australia for 11 weeks and left me in charge of his pond. Full of expensive carp. Pond froze over yesterday. I gently broke the ice, by leverage - not banging. Does anyone know if it will be okay to leave it frozen over? He had a pump putting air into the pond. hawkeye
If you have a plastic football stick that in will keep an area free of ice

Stick a football in it if the entire surface is frozen as this will allow gas to escape the water.Rotten vegetation at the bottom of pond gives off gas and needs to be vented out.
