I have looked at Kent Velocity but not yet tried them. There are soem earlier comments on them and some say they recoil or leave burnt powder. I'm not able to judge however I wonder? I do believe there is a physiological factor here. Some folk just equate cost with performance and because they are cheaper they just can't be any good. My old shooting coach said to me that the "modern cartridge is better than the man/women behind it". These cartridges have short brass (much better for autos) and that reduces cost, but this is aesthetic. Gamebore also say the actual propellants are the same! If you think about it would just plain daft and expensive to set up a difference powder just for these cartridges. This issue is proved by the law of physics which says for every action there is a reaction proportionate. Thus is you look at the Kent Velocity performance figures you will see they virtually identical to premium brands, which means the same recoil.

Thus Kent Velocity needs to be looked at.

Today I purchased 1000 Fiocchi Gold Trap 28g 7.5 shot for £210 from my RFD. This cartridge is as good as it gets in terms of quality components. I shot 100 of them through my Miroku MK38 on a high tower and was very impressed with the quality of breaks at a good range. I was so impressed with their performance and price that I have reserved a further 2000 from Neil Sutherland at Pro-shooting.co.uk. He is about £25 cheaper than Just Cartridges. The cartridges are so well turned out that I could not decide whether to put them through the gun or display them on my mantle piece! They are soft on the shoulder and through a very dense and even pattern at distance. I know that there are many cheaper cartridges out there that will do the business but how many will look as good or as intimidating to the competition as this brilliant white high brassed shell. The Fiocchi Gold's are without question the dogs b------s.

Kent Velocity have got to be one of the punchiest cartridges I've ever used.

I popped out with a mate a couple of weeks ago and he gave me a couple of boxes of Kent Velocity 28g 7.5's.

Jesus H Christ they were bad. :sly:

I don't generally feel recoil, and have often used 3 1/2" steel wildfowling loads through my gun, which are barely noticeable compared to the Kents.

God knows what they put in them but I would never use them again, or recommend them

I have found the complete opposite; I find them to be a very good peformer and smooth on the shoulder, whether it's my gun I don't know. I was once fooled into thinking that an expensive cartridge makes you hit them. It's not; if you put the shot in the right place it will break it; its just having the confidence both gun and cartridge wise (different choke for different distances etc.) that makes the difference. Many people might disaggree but I challenge them to break clays further than I have with kent velocity's.

I recommend going to a local RFD and getting a mixed slab, ten different boxes, then find a brand/shell that YOUR confident with. You won't know without trying them, but with shooting it is eventually down to user error, if you can use high performance low price shell and then spend the rest on lessons it will make a big difference.

They are also at a good price £135.62/1000; I am about to purchase a pallet so if you wanted any PM and we could sort something out.

I've shot a few hundred of these in fibre wad and I like them.

They remind me of that line from Pink Floyd, part of the background to 'Money' (shop tills ring...)

"what they need is a short, sharp shock!'

There is a fast powder inside, maybe Vectan AS? .....anyone know for sure? :hmm:

Pull the gun well into the shoulder and its all over quick enough.

I thought these were a clean cartridge, say 2/5 where 1 is clean as a whistle.

I saw a couple of thou shot off at one event and not a single misfire or weak cartridge. I've put them through two guns, my Hushberg (Hushpower Mossberg)and a Beretta Semi-auto and to be fair, I can't pick up a vast difference in the two guns. I expected the semi to have more kick, being a lot lighter, but got a pleasant surprise instead. :D

I shot a few boxes when they first came out and have to agree with those who describe them as punchy. They smoke clays really well, the price is much better than the premium stuff and the dirty barrels don`t bother me. I couldn`t put up with the recoil though and I`m convinced the manufacturer has deliberately made them so or else they`d have lost sales from their rip off selection ;) .

I have used a lot of Kent Velocity and yes they are a bit punchy but not excessively so.It depends what gun you are putting them through. If its a light game gun then I imagine they may feel a bit heavy but through a clay gun they should be OK.

Eley Olympics are an excellent cartridge but at the top end of your price range.

Hull CompX are a soft cartridge particularly in 21gm size but they perform very well for all that.

there are faster powders than AS, usually the fastest cartridges have alot of slow burning powder than normal loads. that slower powder and the lighter load is to produce speed. speed is energy, and will differentiate the recoil.

different speed is different ftlbs.

i use a fast burning powder, and a heavy load in subs. keeps the burn clean and the speed subsonic. they are sweet.

the different powder brands are

UEE, maxam.

noblesport.

vectan.

cheddite "drago"

b&p.

all have fast burning powders and slow..

examples of fast, neodisk and AS24, and slow Tecna-n, csb0

Agree with coach, got to be hull comp X.

Think I have about 50 - 100 of lyvale express pro comp 28G left which kicked like a mule in my browning 525, once they have gone all my cartridges are Hull comp X's happy days once the lyvales are gone.

Just bought some Hull Comp X 21G plastic wad which were £140 a 1000
