zebedee71
You CAN indeed get a .25 air rifle and i beleive The RWS 48/52 is a spring gun as are the Beeman Kodiak these are also a .25 air rifle as well as the Beeman Crow Magnum. Also there is the Stalker Jaguar (very nice pre charge) Looks like a Logun and it also comes in .30 cal as well as higher cal also and muzzle energy up to 220FLB. Try this link www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~targetts/jaguar.htm Daystate also do a .25 cal air rifle these are just some off the top of my head but there are LOADS of .25 cal air rifles on the market. Hope this helps Zeb Edited February 13, 2005 by zebedee71

hill billy
I have just looked at a part of the stalker site http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~targetts/pricelis.htm#PUMA and they have one air rifle that is .50 caliber and is 340 foot pounds, what the hell would you shoot with that because i don't think rinos fall under the air rifle approved hunting list, I think it would probably just be target shooting but can you imagin the pellit tin they would come in. 1 of 5
Without going seriously high priced the two common airgun calibres above .22 are .25 and 9mm. In .25 you have a choice of BSA or Anschutz (I think) barrels. I do know that there are two main suppliers and one is definately BSA. The 9mm is a Korean item called a Career. http://www.straightshooters.com/ourtake/otr9mm.html These beasts can run to 120 ft/lb but the quality of the barrels and projectiles keeps accuracy low. Most .25 pellets are ballistically poor too and shed energy fast downrange. Once you get much above 30 ft/lb in .22 you're relly looking at a rimmy as the huge powered airguns are both impractical in their air consumption and also due to that difficult to silence. hill billy
The Stalker Leopard Air Rifle goes up to .50 cal and 340 foot pounds and is used in america to take deer
Whitebridges
Theoben make the "eliminator" in .25 cal. It's a break barrel gun that does about 35ftlb which is plenty for vermin at about 60 yards or so. If you look around they are advertised regularly secondhand. old rooster
You need to consider the rifleing in an air weapon, it is considerably faster than that of a powder rifle and if the energy is increased dramatically it must be due to achieving higher velocity if using normal pellets. The increase in velocity in some cases must be near that of a rimfire .22 in which case the skirts of most pellets will just strip leading to poor accuracy and barrel clogging. Theoben are based in my parent's village (the village where i grew up) It is worth going down there if you get a chance - very impressive pieces of kit they have on display. old rooster
Nothing new under the sun; the Austrian army used air weapons of large caliber over a century ago, the air vessels were leather bound copper bottles. When caught in possesion of one of these silent but deadly guns summary execution was meted out as it was considered grossly unfair. Just hope we don't get to shoot at any more vampire rabbits in case they come after us if we miss !!!
