Shooting Tom
When is the best time to decoy pigeons? as in time of year. Also what crops do you think pigeons decoy the best on? Thanks
Cranfield
They are very difficult questions to answer as there are so many variables. In my area, the pigeons are evident all year round, but I probably shoot my biggest bags on drillings and stubbles.
Jesse James
Hi Mate. last Sunday I was decoying out on grass only and have to say got my best result to date 52 wood pigeons on half shell decoys x 12. John R can back me up on decoying on grass. Twice i have tried this and twice i have had good results. I must just be lucky as there flight path seems to cut across my shoot and once they see my decoys they come round full circle to have a look and have even taken 15 that landed into water logged area too. they are eating some where in the fields behind my shoot. there numbers started coming past around 3.30 pm until 4.30.then they headed for the woods. Billy.
Get onto the first field in your area that's drilling peas and you're sorted.

MerseaDavid
Normally you will get your best bags on spring drilling or on harvetsed crops. If you have any clover fields you should have a few good days on that. And if you have a good oak line you will get some good bags when they come in to eat the acorns. If you are lucky you might get some good bags on winter rape but not always.
ChrisNicholls
I have had my best bags on rape, usually quite early in the season when they haven't been shot much on it - I have also had my worst days on rape too. My most consistent days have been on stubbles.
