tomleatel
I have a permission which I am shooting on Tuesday, which is full of Pigeons and Crows, I will be taking with me a dozen pigeon decoys, and 2 crow decoys, plus a bouncer. I am sure we will have a good day, but concerned I don't have a rotary! I am shooting on grazing land.. I would appreciate if you could let me know if you think I am taking enough and should I bite the bullet And buy a rotary? Cheers Terry

deny essex
I always start without a rotary and sometimes its not needed at all and stays in the bag, as already said at times they can be spooked with the magnet at other more difficult times to decoy they can bring them in, fieldcraft is the important factor whatever type of live quary shooting you do. Lots of good tips on here of pattern placement and styles but whenever i used to decoy crows as well as pigeon i found it better to have the crow dec's 5 to 10 metres away from the pigeon decs and the pigeon decs this time of year no more than 1 metre apart from one another. Good luck and enjoy.

MerseaDavid
I would not bother getting one. bouncer and decoys will do fine mate. Some lofting poles would come in handy but not important.
Catamong
You'll be lucky to shoot 5 or 6, whereas if you used a rotary you could be looking at a bag of 30 plus if you're in the right place. If you are serious about shooting pigeons and not just sitting in a hedgerow all day long watching the world go by, you need to use a rotary, fact. Don't leave home without one. Ask the pro's like Will Beasley and Jim Albone whether they ever don't bother with a rotary, I know what they'll say. You say you are shooting on "grazing land", what does this mean, what are the birds feeding on..?? Cat. bootneck
If you simply want to kill as many birds as you can then perhaps consider a rotary, flapper, decoys etc etc. If however you are competent and can apply field craft skills then sit in the right place and still kill loads of birds FACT!
