Fisherman Mike
It has been a real red letter day for me today so far. Looked in the papers this morning to see the Hammers had there third league win on the bounce. Got a Tax rebate for £480 quid, totally unexpected. and had three Haw finches in the Garden on the apple trees which is a bird Ive never seen in this area and have not recorded since my teens. Have any of you ever been lucky enough to see this elusive and spectacular bird ? I am definately going to do the Lottery tonight and probably a win double on AC MILAN and BARCELONA. FM. Fisherman Mike
I am definately going to do the Lottery tonight and probably a win double on AC MILAN and BARCELONA. FM. £10.00 win treble AC Milan 12/5, Barcelona 5/4 and Lyon 12/5 paid £260.10....Yipeeeeeee Thats a Haw Finch RB.... Pretty rare seeed eaters can crack cheery stones with that beak... Looks a bit like a Parrot... Dont confuse it with a Male Chaffinch slightly similar colours but much smaller beak. FM.

Not into my footy but was that a lucky guess or was that a lucky guess Well done FM, sure you'll be in the pw arms tonight then Or, are you halfway on getting the sat nav Ive got Sat Nav already and it does the washing, cooks, gets the kids ready in the morning, keeps the house clean and does the shopping... Take a wrong turn in the car and it barks out audible directions. Its completely detachable also so if you buy a new car it just comes with you. Only down side is the amount of room it consumes and a built in diversion route finder when you drive into the pub car park or bookmakers. FM. coney hunter
Few years back me and my dad spotted an parrot up a tree near our house Knowing now that it was an African grey and that they go for around £1000 I think that we would of tried a bit harder to get it down. scolopax
Never seen a Hawfinch, pretty few and far between here in east yorkshire. Other birds which can be quite common in some parts but are very rare locally are siskins, bramblings and nuthatches. Redpolls used to be common but seem to have completely disappeared these days. Paul in North Lincs.
As FM rightly points out the Haw finch is indeed quite a rarity nowadays, and is Britains largest finch, and I suppose to the novice it could be mistaken for a male chaffinch. I have only ever found 1 nesting pair about 10 years ago, and about 18 years ago I picked one up round some some local gravel pits, that was suffering from exhaustion, I not sure if perhaps they are migratory, of if it had escaped from a private collection. All the same Fm, its very encouraging sign to have 3 in garden!!! Paul in North Lincs
