Warlock
I hold a SGC & FAC, i have a .22rf and a .17hmr but i am in a situation where i cannot safely use these 2 rifles. I don`t have a spare slot to swap to a FAC air rifle, so what i need is an air rifle that can take a rabbit at 50-60yds, Cheaper the better as it`s not something that is going to be used as much as my other rifles. Any and all suggestions please. i have a dive cylinder sitting at home so can be precharged or spring or CO2, also multishot and single shot suggestions are ok. Robby22
Hi, TBH at 50-60yards (in my opinion) its far too far for an off ticket airgun, with my old superten I would never shoot past 40ish yards. Get FAC air for that range cos ule more than likely just end up wounding them with anything less. Robby22
Axe
That is definitely FAC territory, best to apply for another slot.
Warlock
Urrrgghhhhh thought that might be the case, more damn money paid to the police for nothing!
bullet boy
You definately need an FAC Air-rifle for the range mentioned.
mark_mjs93
mate, seriously learn some stalking skills, if the reason you want to shoot so far away is because you think they wil scarper you just need to learn to stalk, go out and do what i did, go to a field and (with permission) stalk rabbits with a camera... one you can get some amazing photos... and if you can get within 30 yards of the ******* and you can do that consistantly without any trouble then you will be fine then practice with your rifle, BUT dont shoot them UNLESS they are within 30 yards, i mean i used to go out without pllets, and stalk them aswell and get them in the cross hairs, and pull the trigger, not actually shooting them UNLESS i was POSITIVE... i hope this helps... Happy Shooting Mark but if there is another reason you need that distance FAC is the path you need to take... Warlock
I can quite easily and consistently stalk a rabbit to far less than 30 metres that is not the issue in fact it is VERY easy, the issue is i need a rifle capable of good kills at between 50-60yds to fill a gap that i cannot use my .22rf i don`t want to pay another £20+ to kent police to give me yet another slot so hence sub 12ft/lb air rifle. If any of you think that my fieldcraft skills are somehow below par i suggest you experience 1st hand the layout of where i need to shoot and you will see why i need such a rifle. Beardo
FAC air is your only sensible option i'd say - even if you're on target at 60-70 yards (lots of holdover), there's not enough power left in the pellet for a clean kill with a 12ftlbs rifle. 50-60 yards is debatable, you have to be bang on the mark every time to drop them. amateur
.......i don`t want to pay another £20+ to kent police to give me yet another slot so hence sub 12ft/lb air rifle. The price difference on a s/h FAC air rifle should more than compensate for that. The restricted market for them keeps prices low
Warlock
Hmmmm it`s seeming like that could be my only option, i just have to check i have a slot in my safe and go through sending off my cert. i don`t think i can get the flexibility i need from a sub 12ft/lb with an effective range of 40 yds. fo5ter
I'd say it depends when you are shooting... For lamp shots I find that it is stupidly easy to walk 25yds up to a rabbit by keeping the lamp on and pointed low so that the rabbit is not lit up too much but its eyes still glow. get into a comfy shooting position and then lift the rifle to your eye and shoot. i discovered later that my rifle was chronoing at just over 10ft/lbs! power isnt everything - good fieldcraft, rustle free clothing and squeak-free boots go a long way! northeastshooter
50 to 60 yards is right on the limit of a sub 12 air rifle but can b done had 1 sittin the garden yesterday 57 yards with aspringer as long as u are sure and pratice u should b ok
SNAKEBITE
Doable but the **** up fairy will be bound to visit if you try it too much. Wind variations over that distance can be surprising, knocking a pellet off target.
