Toombsy
If you see an offer of packs of shell decoys with spring sticks, don't waste your money. I have tried and tried to get the damn things to work properly and everytime the decoy just flops over to one side as the springs just aren't strong enough to support the decoy. If there's anyone out there who has made these stupid things work, please tell me how. Otherwise they are going in the bin!
Warlock
The secret to these things is to make the gap between the 2 bits of plastic shorter do this by "screwing/twisting" the plastic sticks into the spring, this makes the spring stiffen up as there is less to flex in the gap, Hope this makes sense. Toombsy
It does make sense. I will give it a try the next time I'm out. Thanks for your reply.
Warlock
I had the same problem to start with and felt the urge to shove them up the shop guys butt, it was quite pathetic standing in a field watching a bunch of shells flopping left and right and staying on their side, i started to muck about with them and found the springs were just too weak and shortening the gap was the only way to stiffen them. they work just fine now and bob about happily. Toombsy
That's good news. I bet there's 100s of pigeon shooters out there who've binned those things because, like me, they wouldn't have known to do that. Just a little piece of paper explaining that with your purchase, or better still, producing the things properly in the first place, would help massively
Deako
Jeez  Not exactly difficult to work out is it lads?
henry d
Just a little piece of paper explaining that with your purchase, or better still, producing the things properly in the first place, would help massively Perhaps the manufacturer/supplier will do that in the future eh ?
Guest topshot_2k
i have used them (from pinewood sporting) and they were very good, better than most of the cheaper ones you see about
Cranfield
Be aware, there are lots of items called "spring sticks" and they are not all the same. The Pinewood ones and the ones referred to here are definitely not the same ones.
