Stamford
Just got me first permission and I'll keep a log of whats shot and seen etc.. This will also be of interest to the head keeper or land owner.
Baldrick
I do exactly the same. I use a separate worksheet for each parcel of land I shoot over, broken down into species per month. I have something similar for deer management. It's quite useful to have a record, from which trends are easily spotted.
Warlock
I use good old fashioned memory power, i remember which places gave the good results and what crops if any were about.
Blackbart
I dont keep records of rabbits, flying vermin or any other vermin apart from foxes.Records are kept of all game that are shot on shoot days but not the odd walk about with gun and dog.No deer records are kept either. If the farmer thinks there is too many about he asks for some to be shot partly because of tree damage and sadly partly because he doesnt want the deer to attract poachers. Stamford
I think its good to keep a track just for your own benefit really, days, times, weather - I'm sure there must be a shooting body that does a spreadsheet that is downloadable, maybe basc do something similar
Beardo
i keep a spreadsheet with a tab for each permission and running total at the top, recording date, rough time of shoot, location (field), and whether it was a rabbit/pigeon/corvid etc.
charlie 1
i keep records of weather, quarry, who was shooting and cartridges/bullets used, times etc. takes 5 mins to fill in after a days shooting, well worth doing!

Erik Hamburger
Since I have a FAC I always phone the Police in advance of a shooting outing and get a call log no. and the name of the operator I speak to. They always take my details, mobile phone. no. where I will shoot, approx. times on site, what calibre, and if I will be alone or not. Oddly they never ask me for my FAC No. I enter the Police call log No. in a simple spreadsheet and keep a note of it on me during my outing - in case I get stopped/questioned (also by members of the public) such details will put them at ease quiclkly I think. I also leave a note under my car window with the Police call log No., the date, and my mobile No. My permission for the .17HMR has a lot of footpaths over it, a main road, and a private steam railway, and it is fairly close to a small town. Therefore I consider this good practice and due diligance. I predict that in the next few years this will become standard practice if not a legal requirement, and that BASC will adopt it in the shooting codes of practise.
