Shooting Tom
ALSO GUYS... Would you recommend getting a speed control 4 pigeon magnet?
deny essex
ALSO GUYS... Would you recommend getting a speed control 4 pigeon magnet? Yep get one , variable speed for different wind strengths and the way the pigeon fancies.
Shabbyshot
I find that my dads magnet is no good without one. With no controller it just does its impression of a helecopter and does more harm then good. That said it may depend on the make.
Shooting Tom
My magnet makes a full turn in 2 seconds. Is that ok, or does it need to be slower or faster or what ?? ? ?
Shabbyshot
That maybe ok, it depends on the day. It is nice to have the flexability and to be able to change it as you see fit. You can expect to pay about £20 to £25 for a controller.
Rick O'Shea
The most important thing you could possibly posses in your pigeon shooting kit is valuable time doing reconnaisance looking for flight lines and where the birds are feeding. Oh and a copy of John Batleys book 'The Pigeon Shooter' to learn about your quarry!
Shooting Tom
Lol, yes that does help. Spoke to the gamekeeper today he said that the farmer comes every morning at about 7.30 and shoots 8 cartridges of randomly as there are so many birds to scary them of then you dont see them all day. He then come back at 2 ish. So there are not many fight lines to see as there are no birds around lol. so i have some time to spend lol. bruno22rf
Thats fairly typical for any area that has an abundance of rape-they just head for another field after they have been disturbed-most of the time they dont come back at all!. jonboy1
with the speed controller it depends what type of rotary you have whether it's worth using or not, my rotary has quite long arms and with two dead pigeons on it i find that the speed is just right without the need for a controller. My mate has the new lightweight one with shorter arms that takes the silosock decoys and definately needs speed control otherwise as someone mentioned it resembles a blooming helicopter about to take off. The only time i tend to use my speed controller is if there is very little or no wind, and then i will slow it down a bit
Highlander
When setting up a magnet you need to check the speed the pigeons are coming in at (preferably with one of those odometer thingies that I’m sure some of the pigeon shooting outfitters will sell you at great expense) then set the rotation of the magnet to match. It’ll make all the difference to your day, you might not have much to shoot at but just think of the fun you’ll have in calculating things. Oh how I wish April 01st was here!
