Baldrick
Pav, The .17 HMR thread erupted because it is not an appropriate weapon for 300-yard shots, particularly speculative ones. However, 252 yards is firmly within range for a .22-250. With vermin on your ticket, the skill and the right conditions/safety measures in place, I personally consider a 252-yard pigeon a legitimate target. It is not efficient as a means of pest control, but it is valid. I shoot a lot of corvids and other vermin and pest species at long range (a 7mm STW delivers >2,000ft/lb at 500 yards, sufficient for pigeons). But every shot is judged, taken with care, using high-grade equipment set up for the job in hand. Whilst I don't contribute to it, a quick gander at UKVarminting may highlight how pedestrian and acceptable Dougy's shot was (no offence intended, Dougy). George1990
Nice shot! See if you can push it to 500 yards - that would be awesome ;)
libs
Good shot, dead is dead, and with a 25-250 dead is VERY dead.
olddogfox
There is no such thing as over kill. If the man has the skill and the right calibre to kill something at 250 yards . GOOD LUCK TO HIM. Great shot and well done. I do not care what the antis think because they would stop all shooting and working dogs. olddogfox
sirnovember
Can you use a 22.250 on winged vermin?
miffy
Can you use a 22.250 on winged vermin? Yes if your certificate allows shooting vermin with that calibre (dougys' does)

chrispti
After spending the morning sorting out MY SHED i decided that i had to go out and have a play.On one of my permisions i have a lovely corner where i can snipe some long range rabbits, anyway on the way to my nice quiet retreat i spot a few woddies in the far field, why not- so down in the muck bi pod at the ready, nice and steady waited till it stopped dancing around, squeezed off the shot, bingo a few white feathers floating in the air. well i was impressed then not long after 1 rabbit at 165 yds 1 at 213yds and 1 at 237 yds left out for mr fox,
dingbat
Thats pretty good shooting there dougy I cannot see why some people condone shooting at distances maybe its because they are not able, To take shots at that kind of distance needs quite some effort and it sounds that the chap "dougy" spent quite some time developing a load that was accurate enough to take that kind of shot. so hats off to you dougy, Try and go for the 300yrd next time but of course check it tout on paper first, as i am sure you will.
