Shooting press

Recommended Posts

Been looking at some posts regarding the shooting press, I get second hand magazines off my father (better than shelling out for them)

I have been reading them over a few months and they really are scraping the barrel.

The level of journalism is very poor.

Was reading about some bloke who asked a guy if he could shoot rabbits in his garden secretly because his wife liked them?

It was the biggest load of drivel I have read for ages. I wanted to read about technique not some old wives tale.

The thing that annoys me the most is that every piece of equipment every gun is good.

There are no real equipment reviews that mean anything anymore the sporting press rely on the advertising too much to slag off a product.

Leave us the customer disappointed in some products due to being misled by the shooting press.

Look through a couple of magazines you wont find any real negative comments about kit.

Somebody in Pigeon watch should set themselves up as a site reviewer contacting suppliers using equipment and doing an independent review.

At least then there might be a chance of getting the truth.

I have got most of my knowledge from this site rather than some magazine that churns out utter rubbish.

Rant over

Lack of critical analysis is endemic in journalism. I don't think I have ever read writing and opinion as poor as that spewed out by Pete Moore and Bruce Potts. Some of their comments border on infantile, and their reviews are just atrocious, recycled waffle. And they are 'practical-tactical' Walts.

I don't anticipate much enthusiasm from GMK and other distributors in letting their products be reviewed by people that aren't materially dependent on a livelihood derived from advertising revenue. However I would gladly dedicate my time to reviewing products if the opportunity was available.

This is why l like Clarkson,

When a Car is rubbish he is the first to say it - when you cut through the **** that some have to speal all they do is repeat facts / data about products which to be honest l couldn't give a rats bumhole about.

This topic seems to be coming up quite a lot recently, we could just not buy their rubbish??

I only subscribe to Shooting Times now, as it is as least current (if not 100 accurate), and therefore relevant to my job. I'm cancelling my Sporting Shooter subscription when I have a free moment. That magazine started out well, but now has the same derivative rubbish as the other mags.

The problem is manufacturers will still give Clarkson cars even if he occasionally says one is ****, however lesser journalists just wouldn't get any work if they did the same. Hate to say it but I've almost stopped reading shooting mags as there just isn't anything new in them

Couldn't agree more about the reviews, the magazines never say anything negative as their advertising revenue might go down :D

If you want unbiased (but American) opinion, look on the Chuck Hawks web site. No advertising, no bullxxxx.

A lot of free stuff, but the occasional subscription can keep you up to date.
