vole
Just upgraded my D cell and my AA cell Maglites. The D cell is as dull as (3 watt but not as good as the Tesco LED torch)and the AA cell head nearly falls off when you turn it as it accommodates a bigger bulb,it is brighter though but it does not focus as well.I bought the Nite Ize bulbs by the way. Lancs Lad
Mate, LED techonlogy has come a long way. I used LEDS for my dive lighting and they are fantastic. Low battery use and with great output.
vole
Thats why i am disappointed with the Maglite upgrades. They are not half as good as the relatively cheapy LED torches I have.I think I expected alot due to maglites being good torches in the 1st plce but the brightness is much less than torches half the price.I lamped rabbits with the Tesco £12 jobby this week but would not even go there with the Mag.Still a good club though. vole
A proper one then! Mine is for walking the dog, tying hooks and shooting the odd bunny. Useless if exploring a wreck.

henry d
I "lost" my maglite for 24hrs when wildfowling, it remained under up to 10 feet of water and still worked when I found it, would Tesco`s finest do the same ??
vole
Probably not but these things can surprise you. I once kicked one of the old rubberised Ever Ready ones off the end of the pier on a stormy night (the ones used by Police at the time). We found it on the beach next day. It never worked of course but a good size Blenny had taken up residence in it. Actually it did light. My point is that because I find Maglites so good (have 6 !) I expected it to be at least as bright as the 3 watt Tesco which is C cell and 1/3 the size. The Maglite is rated at 3 Watt . I would be 1st to commend their ruggedness and reliability. Adding an LED bulb to the D cell especially detracts from its brightness however.

Malinois
Hi, I upgraded my 3 cell D maglite with a TerraLux conversion that are available on Ebay. It is 10x brighter than a bulb and the batteries last 10x longer. You can't possibly be using Terralux as mine is so good, I bought another. Emmsy
i have a genuine led maglite and its very bright and focus's well. im guessing the aftermarket upgrade bulb kit you bought aint that special. if bought in the states the genuine stuff is relatively cheap

The AA upgrade made my Mini Maglite brighter though it does have the problem of not focussing any more.

Traztaz
Having read on here of the Tescoes LED I orderd one and bloody hell thats a good bit of kit!!Very well made, bright as you like and has a great very very white light. Having seen some of the other torches available I am amazed at what it is for the price. Maglight made their name years ago , but since have not made any headway to impress me. My 2 pennyworth.
