wildfowl
Hi all Ive managed to get a 28 bore at last and have been thinking of trying it for a bit of clay shooting before taking it into the field. Questions: 1. Which 28 bore cartridge would people recomend for clays? 2. Prices for the above? and where they are from (I'm in SUSSEX by the way) 3. Are fibre available in size 8 or 9 at sensible prices? Ive had a look at one of the "large" internet cartridge suppliers but really only size 6 or 7 are available Your thoughts please
Cushat
I've only ever been able to get 7's in fibre, but always seem to break them ok. Eley do the best range of fibres, and I like their VIPs for gamea and Grand Prix are good for clays but not cheap, so I tend to use Hull 19g (I think) Game & Clay when I want to break a few clays. markm
Very limited range available, For game I use express 28b 28g 6's. I shot them all season out of my cynergy and got a bit of a shock when I went on a high bird day in the new year and changed to my 12 with 32g 5's at the amout (more) of recoil. I am seriously considering investing in a reloading kit for my 28g, that way you can do a nice 24g load of 7.5's and game loads. Whilst it is not worth it for 12 it would seem sensible for a 28g as some lead cartridges can cost £7 for 25.

Are there any training courses in the UK for this? or anyone close to Sussex willing to show me the ropes? 2. What would the cost be for a 28 bore start up kit? and where is it best to get it from? I have looked at some of the posts on here however i thought i'd ask and therefore simplify what i think i understand from previous posts
Floating Chamber
A Mec 600Jr 28 gauge press will load 70mm good cases (Fiocchi - HULL CARTRIDGE) and will handle 65mm Eley crimped cases with the conversion kit. The press needs a little 'tweaking' and the substitution of a professional (trade) crimp-starter improves the performance. Crimp-spinning with a trade spinning bobbin gives a professional finish. Try here for the bits. http://www.siarm.com/index.php FC

Salopian
Claygame reloading supplies are Mec stockists, he's near Boston in Lincs. I think you are looking at about £150 -£200 all up, but that is only a !000 cartridges and you've got it forever. Express do everything from 9/16 of an oz upto 1oz loads for 28bore. I have used cartridges from all the cartridge manufacturers and haven't found a bad one yet.But you really can't beat loading your own, it is a custom load, exactly what you want, and best of all after the initial outlay is VERY cheap. Cheaper than the cheapest 12bore cartridge in fact. You can also get secondhand machines for about £60 and then get a 28guage conversion kit from Claygame.
