bigred
Hi was wondering if anybody knew if it is legal to fire a shotgun in a field the has a duel carrigeway at one side and a school at the other. This is a huge field with rape in it and would only be shooting in the middle of it. Farmer has asked for me to shoot the pigeon that feast on the crop. Many thanks. richg
Provided you are a safe distance from both the road and the school ie. minimum 300 yards you are not breaking any laws. Get stuck in !!!

CZ550Kevlar
The school could complain on the grounds of noise nuisance disrupting classes. but you would have to be very unlucky.
mossy835
why not go see the head master, and tell him what you are doing.then he will here the shots and not panic.
deny essex
Try to shoot when the winds blowing away from the school to carry the gunshot away should keep any complaints at bay.
Ean76
You could shoot on the weekends or over the next 2 weeks when the kids are not at school (groan!) and then no-one can really moan can they! Check up on distances from the highways and all that to cover yourself. Go for it!!!!

clayman
Provided you are a safe distance from both the road and the school ie. minimum 300 yards you are not breaking any laws. Get stuck in !!! There is no law that says 300yds is needed, this is simply recommended best practice for competition clay grounds as defined by the CPSA following shot fall out reports for nos 6 to 9 in clay loads by Cranfield University in their study of March 2003. Game loads were tested as well. The report covers shot loads from no 6, and 6's pw 36g fall out at a maximum of 208m at 24 degree elevation, but windage can add up to 69m of drift forwards or 56m sideways. So, the "safe" rectangle for shooting from the centre of the field up its length is a box about 150m wide x 300m long ( allowing an extra 20m for additional safety). If shots are taken on any angle, extra width needs to be added. Shot landing outside the permitted area of shooting is trespass, and the shooter could be liable for any damages resulting. In the described scenario there should be no safety problem as long as the land is long and wide enough, but make sure that the police control room is informed you intend to shoot their, and all neighbours inc the school. This should stop alarmist reporting and unneeded police reactions.
