bought a new silver pigeon about a year ago. probley put 1500 carts through it.

it fires the first barrel of fine. the problem is when i need to fire the secound shot of. some time the trigger goes solid. but if i let go and pull again its ok. it doesent happen ever time, i would say 1 in 3.

i look after it well keeping it clean and well oilled.

just wanted to know if any one else has had this problem. is there anything i can do myself or would i be best taking it to a gun smith.

any advise would be good thanks

I had a similar problem with a Silver Pigeon and was told it was because I was not fully releasing the trigger from the first shot.

I took it for a round of sporting clays and consciously made sure I released the trigger fully before the second shot and the problem went away.

Apparently, it happens a lot if the gun is too long for you (mine was a bit) and this causes you to maintain too much pressure on the trigger.

No doubt it could be something else as well, so if it persists take it to the Gunshop.

IVE JUST GOT MY SILVER PIG, BACK FROM THE GUNSMITH FOR THIS PROBLEM.

I WAS TOLD THE TRIGGER NEEDED RESETTING DUE TO INERTIA PROBLEMS.

THE FIRST SHOT WAS NOT GIVING ENOUGH KICK TO SWITCH FROM THE FIRST BARREL TO THE SECOND (BOTTOM TO TOP). IT SIMPLY WOULDN'T FIRE LIGHT LOADS AND STARTED TO GET WORSE.

MAYBE IVE BEEN TOLD PORKIES! HOPEFULLY IT WONT PLAY UP AT THE CLAYS ON SATURDAY! GOING TO TRY SOME 21 GRAMS.

I KNOW THAT YOU CAN SIMULATE THE INERTIA BY DRY FIRING FIRST SHOT THEN TAPPING THE BUTT ON THE FLOOR, BUT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SIMULATE THIS GIVING THE BUTT A GOOD TAP WITH THE PLAM OF YOUR HAND. IF YOU CANT DO IT BY HAND THEN MAYBE THE INERTIA SYSTEM NEEDS LOOKING AT.

BUT AS I SAID THIS MAYBE RUBBISH! CANT WAIT TO SEE IF IT BEHAVES ON SAT.

I hope your problem is resolved, but the inertia trigger does need releasing fully. It is amazing how often I see this when clay shooting.

I worried a bit about you saying you oiled the action of the gun, this can cause sticking if you get a build up of gunk where you keep oiling it. I take my 687 action from the wood when it gets wet and spray with WD40, which is known as the "gunsmith's friend" for releasing sticking actions that have been over oiled. I then leave the action somwhere warm to dry off.

had similer prob with my silver pigeon 5 , it turned out to be a redundant part of the auto safty that is factory fitted but only used if its a auto safty . my gunsmith whipped it out and now all is fine . its a slider that can go on the p**s if its had a knock . nothing too dramatic .
