Cranfield
The warm weather and the rain has meant that peas are chitting everywhere on my permissions..........., but the birds don't seem remotely interested. They are still hanging round the edges and in the tractor lines on the rape and sitting out on the meadows eating clover.
The Sipe-ist
Tree buds are the problem around my locality. There is no point in going too early in the day and even later on they are very unreliable. couple more weeks and things will return to normal. I hope! MerseaDavid
We have got the same trouble on the farms I shoot and the Farm I work on, the birds are still on the rape in place and in the trees eating buds etc. I only saw about 8 birds on one of our pea fields and that was it. I am sure they will soon start to hit the fields though.

Airborne9
I shot over peas this morning with some success although not a lot, bagged 12 in a few hours and things dried up after that, all in all there doesn't seem to be too much activity over peas in Suffolk either! Warm Barrels
I have shot over our peas here this week for a few hours before breakfast as ours on the estate (6 fields)are also chitting shot about 30 or so..and every year the birds are slow to come off the rape and the tree buds. as they tend to spend some time in the tree tops...Incidentally I learned when I was trainning in Fordingbridge at the old Game Concervancy that they wait for the peas ...to what is called "leaf crack" before attacking them. You do of course get the odd ones around the "spillage areas" as the drill makes mistake that is common. The buds are a temptation for them as they help with digestion juices so be patient and they will attack the peas in a week or so...
