dave dog
The other saturday nigth whildt out lamping got stopped by the the police. We were in the feild and noticed a car behaveing oddly in the bottom conner of the feild, their is quite alot of poaching of deer where i shoot. So to be on the safe side we put the rifle away and made are way to where the car was parked up. As we drawed closer we could see it was the police. So got out oif the vechile with my arm speared wide so they could see i was not carring anything, must have looked a complete T**T walking towards them. Both officers got out one was readly incase of troudle hand CS gas and baton, there other just with her hand panic button of the radio. I stop and let them then approch me and they dropped the graud very quickly then on in. After a breif chat i offered them the reffereance number number give to me by the control room that checked out all check order by them at the seen they stopped and everything was fine, invited them to check FAC, rifle, and qurray to show we had nothing to hide. Only checked FAC because we had refferance number. They could say sorry enough for bothering us, everyone went off happy all because we had a refferance number. They do work and can safe alot of trouble. Have to say the female officer was quite pettry. And well done to Avon Somerset police for the way their officers handled the situation. All because someone new to the area had heared gun fire. Dave
kdubya
I have been "stopped" a few times by coppers whilst out shooting, all but one were handled very pleasantly, I even gave one a lift back to his car ( poor sod had walked miles) only once did I have any real "grief" when I had a "discussion" re shotgun carts that he could see through my motors windows ( he said they should be in a locked container out of sight" I said he was talking ******** and the chat started!! I ended up politely agreeing with him so he would ****** off KW

Foxer
Was stopped when i first got my new motor because the insurance hadn't been updated on the computors so had to produce my documents at the station later on. But while they had stopped me and checking things out and running my name through the system it must have came back that i held a SGC as one of them mentioned do i still have my shotgun and and a few other questions. They did seem to treat me better once they knew i had a SGC though, guess it counts for something and prooves im no wrong'un. At first i was just an 18yr old that was showing no insurance on their system
Warm Barrels
As a keeper with an "urban estate" a couple of miles away, on ones doorstep. You can understand one has to be carefull these days with the possibility of "unwanted trespass with firearms" I have on occasions called "plod" to help interviene where I have been out numbered,or thought it wise to do so, and they have been on the most part great. I would say that if you are polite/reasonable to them they will be likewise back. But remember where firearms are concerned the first priority for them (and yourself) is one of safety. In days gone by when I started my gamekeeping career we had the village policeman who knew all genuine shots, me and the guests, but sadly today we are in another world where the law is conserned.
