Supersonic
Hi A chap at work has asked if I can get rid of a few urban foxes that are wrecking his garden. My FAC says 'vermin and pest control at xxxxxx' which is my permission in Hampshire. He lives in outer London. I have .17hmr and soon will have .22lr (both moderated). The question is: can i do it? do I ask a) my FEO, the FEO for his patch, or c) his local EHO?? Any advice welcomed. hawkeye
Simple answer is NO your ticket must be closed to state what you say so you have to get the land passed by your FEO
libs
If you have a closed ticket then obviously not. I heard of some guys shooting down from a 2nd floor window into ground checked for stones with moderated .22lr in urban areas, but I belive problem foxes have to be identified. Sounds like loads of faff to me.

wy111
Ask your FLDept to open your licence, IF you have had it for a while. Explain the problem. There are many "professional" urban fox shooters in the big Cities and can and do charge over £100/fox. Most use .22, even though it is a not recognised caliber,(This will cause some arguments from the armchair shooters). The other way is to put traps down, not cheap tho. Have a word with bignoel, he traps big style in urban areas

bigstevouk
I always trap where shooting cannot be done for one reason or another, then dispatch it when away from the area... hth
Supersonic
I have just re-read my ticket and the wording is as follows: "The .....(guns etc).... shall only be used for shooting vermin and for zeroing on ranges, or land deemed suitable by the chief officer of police for the area where the land is situated and over which the holder has lawful authority to shoot" Open or Closed??? gixer1
Just out of interest if it says " land deemed suitable by the chief officer of police for the area where the land is situated and over which the holder has lawful authority to shoot" If this person wanted to buy a days stalking he could yes? (as he would have permission) so this means he could go stalking anywhere, is that not open? what would the open ticket say?
al4x
too risky and easy to loose your ticket, just get a live capture trap and show him how to use it and then go and collect the fox when he's caught it.
Guest RemmySPS
Be very careful shooting around neighbours as they are like to call the police, especially around London. Don’t know if any of you have ever read the Sporting Rifle magazine, but one of the writers in there was a chap called Dig Haddoke. He used to lecture at a college in St John’s Wood (or there abouts). He went onto the roof of the college with an air rifle to shoot rats that were causing a problem, and someone called the police. The really hilarious thing about it was, these experts had to ask him how to unload the rifle because they thought it was a cartridge firing rifle and didn’t know the difference between that and a cheap air rifle, not even when they had chance to inspect it. He was treated like a criminal by the armed response “Experts†and had to get legal advice. The frightening thing about it was that he could have been shot. My advice would be to trap these foxes and then take them somewhere quiet to shoot them.
