another vote In support of Hill Billy, yes its overkill but its the target practice at rabbits thats the issue with a scope you're not confident about, really you need to be 90% on paper before even trying live quarry

it's a good thing you have to pass a mental age test to obtain a FAC or SGC or you would be right in the cart

On that same vein, if a sense of humour was a requirement, your hunting would be limited to using a catapult.

like he said can't you just learn how to be a bit quieter and get within 100 yards of a rabbit and shoot it with something a bit more sensable. to be honest if i was a land owner and found that the people i trusted to do my vermin control were messing about attempting to shoot rabbits from long ranges with centre fire rifles then i would kick you straight off, there is nothing clever sensible or heroic about blowing a rabbit to pieces just to say to others you can do it ! besides its all well and good writting you have done it and posting a picture but what does it prove for all i no that rabbit was sittin 30 yards away,

You'd kick them off for shooting a rabbit with a CF ? That's just ridiculous! As I said the only problem when shooting a quarry is if your calibre is NOT BIG ENOUGH!

Especially for vermin control. For vermin control where your not after meat then you just want to get a CLEAN HUMANE kill on the animal. I have no doubt that the 223 did that in this case as shown!

Shooting squirrels with a 17HMR will do similar amounts of damage but should we not shoot them with it ? What can we shoot them with ?

I don't see where the problem is shooting something with a CF. If it had been like a 50 cal I understand its a bit OTT, but a 223 isn't exactly huge!

Atleast you can be happy the rabbit was cleanly dispatched without suffering, as opposed to say shooting with an air rifle and having it slink off n die slowly in a hole :(
