daz2202
Its not often I just take the AA S410 .22 out on its own as i always prefer the shot gun. However, seem to have had an explosion of rabbits on my permission so thought i would set up and take a few out quietly. 1st one was perfect head shot, but had to give it another one to dispatch. 2nd one took 3 shots (all head) Both of the above within 30 yards so with this i popped backed to the car and got the chrono out of the slip to make sure i was up to power. 5 shots through it and results were 11.97, 11.93, 12.02, 11.97,11.99 ft lb. So i really know the gun is on the money. I am using AA diablo pellets and always have done. Went back and waited to try again. 2 more rabbits 1 fell immediatly and the other took 2 perfect head shots. I measured out and both were 24 yards. Now the gun is fine, my accuracy was spot on with every shot, the pellets are fine, distance was well within mine and the guns capabilities, so are these bunnies in my area related to ronnie and reggie. Serious responces would help as i hate not taking the kill quickly and immediatly. Edited May 8, 2009 by daz2202
badshot
Probably already dead but still 'kicking', lots of reaction from nerves when something dies suddenly.
George1990
Yeh shooting with the shotty seems to kill them quicker. Air rifle headshot knocks their lights out but there is still a lot of nervous twitching. Either way they don't know what hit them. First time I've used a shotgun on a rabbit the other day. Still had a minimal amount of kicking with that.

Rabbits do kick for a short time before they realise they have passed this world. Bit worried about you crono results. Have you a rifle FAC license? If not I would lock away your S410 until you get it de tuned to about 11.5. Carbon
Beardo
i've noticed when headshotting bunnies with the .17hmr - if the brain is totally destroyed, they do cartwheels for a horribly long time, even though there's nothing left of the top of the head. once i gutted and skinned a rabbit - removed all internal organs, and the muscles where still pulsing! astraman1
think ive seen a video of that
sharky1
A few rabbits seem to kick & twitch even after a perfect head shot, more so if they were sat up an alert at the time of being shot I think the adrenalin in there system has something to do with it. As for your rifle power, I would get it de-tuned sooner rather than later as at the moment a police test with heavier pellets than the ones your using will put it over the limit. 1 grain = 0.5 of a ftlbs of extra energy. libs
Come on guys, .02 over the line, 20% of the time... is anyone really gonna get 5 years for that, if that is, some sadact copper goes to the length to chrono the gun.

Maybe they will, maybe the wont, but the point is he is sailing very close to the legal limit, and if caught over the limit, well we all know the possible consequences (spelling)!! It is our responsible to ensure we are the correct side of the law and not the police to check and find out!! Just a little advice and my 2 pennys worth!! hw100ktverminator
Hi daz2202, I have some bunnies that when head shot just fall over dead as a do do, but then twitch quite alot. IMO they are quite dead but the shock sends involuntary nerve signals to the limbs. I think if it were not dead you would have a runner on your hands. jackinbox99
Ive the same gun as you and get the same results or problems. I always go for the headshot @ 15->40 yards max and everytime the rabbit somersaults in the air like its in the circus. Sometimes its completely dead when i run to it, other times it seems to be stunned, then comes "alive" again. If I dont grab it quick, it will leg it off into the bushes. Normally i put another shot in its head when i get to it just to finish it off and the jobs a good un. But, today i got a rabbit which was still kicking like mad after 3 shots in the head. It was most strange and quite off putting. So in future i`ll just break its neck when i get to it. Like you, ive chrono`d my gun, and its pushing out about the same as yours. So, im puzzled as why some shots seem to kill outright, others seem to "stun". Similarly, sometimes i can walk into a field and hit 3 or 4 rabbits nice and easy, other times every shot seems to just bounce right off them. Well if they use the Bisley Magnums it will be over 100% of the time. You might not get 5 years but you will get the gun destroyed and you will drag the sport of airgunning down a peg. Too many pegs and we kiss it it goodbye. Worth it? Nah, don't think so.
