groach1234
Okay well here it is, i am thinking of starting clay shooting was hoping to join a club. I live in York and the nearest ground i know of is the North of England clay ground. But as i am new, not sure if i could join the club (not even sure if there is a team i am an absolute novice) i do not have an idea what happens. Any one got any advise for me? if so it would be gratefully received, even if it is just explaining how it works. George

Harwoodandy
Hi George, give the Coniston hotel ground a look, http://www.theconistonhotel.com/shooting.php also on Peters list. Featured in this weeks shooting times. Really friendly and helpful, they make you feel like they want your business! Only been a couple of times but will definately be back in the near future. I wouldn't bother joining a club at your level as the only real advantage would be slightly cheaper targets/shells. It may be the case that you may want to join later on as you get more addicted..... If you give them a call most grounds that are any good will give you an introductory lesson fully inclusive and take it from there mate. If you don't like it no point joining! From there you can take it at your own pace and see how you progress. Not too far from York if you don't mind a bit of a drive. To be honest i'd rather travel a bit to find a good sporting layout as some of the "sunday shoots" can be a bit primitive, though i'm sure some are really good as well!! I'll second that - Coniston is an excellent ground to shoot at, they've got some great disciplines to shoot (Sporting, Compact Sporting, Skeet, DTL) and it's well worth the trip to get there!
