My .410

Hi

only familiar with 12 bore - offered 2 "antique" 410s for about £45 each. They are known as poachers guns and fold up to drop into a side pocket. They look rough and the bores are the pits (they look like an uncleaned rifled barrel) My local gunsmith says they are probably out of proof (he has not inspected them) They also have no id !!!!!!!.

The seller says the bore state is normal for guns as old as these and states they are in full working order and used recently.

What do you think - would they be worth having or as my gunsmith advises, give them a wide birth? :)

Cheers

As Ernyha says the .410 relates to the diameter of the barrel.

It is sometimes known as the 36g, being the next up in the series 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32... However this is totally wrong, as doing the maths the number of 0.410" diameter spheres cast from a 1lb lead ball would actually be a 67.4g, but in the old days the English standards ended with the 50g - hence the name .410

Hope this helps

I love shooting my Remmy 1100 .410

Not convinced that the 410 in the picture is a Webley. The 1st gun I ever shot was a Webley and I owned one up until 5 month ago until I changed it to a 3 shot bump action 410 Mossberb. I love them. shoot solid slug from it to. I like it when I an not wanting to carry a heavy gun around. The pump is better balanced than the Webley.
