Breastman
Hello everyone, I know these ‘open/closed’ ticket questions are asked every other week, but as I’ve always had an open ticket I can’t remember this particular part of it. A friend who has an S1 shotgun has got vermin control added to his FAC but the condition on it is the closed one, i.e. “The 12 bore shot Gun shall be used for shooting vermin and for zeroing on ranges, or land deemed suitable by the chief officer of police for the area where the land is situated and over which the holder has lawful authority to shootâ€. Now, when you have a ‘closed’ certificate do you have to get ‘personal’ confirmation from the police that the land is suitable for a particular firearm (i.e. you yourself have to arrange an inspection to get word that your particular gun is ok for the land?) or if you know that the land has previously been deemed suitable for that firearm you can just go by that? We’re both members of NPPC so the land we’re shooting on could be all over the country and we don’t want to have to be finding out which force covers each and every field, then having to arrange an inspection before we go out. Would the fact its an NPPC field, and therefore dozens of people have shot 12 bores there previous mean that the field is deemed suitable? As I said I’ve always been fortunate that my certificate is open for all of my firearms so I don’t know the procedure for a closed ticket. Personally I think they’ve added the wrong condition to his ticket. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Mark
tungsten
When I made my application for my FAC, the land I had permission to shoot over (in another force area) was already passed for all the calibres I had requested. However, I understand from the land owner that he was approached again to verify details. My FEO also told me as he was reading the riot act, "don't assume just becuase you are told it's passed that it is, we still need to know". So from that I beleive you need to inform the issuing authority about land you itend to shoot
palombier
Mark Generally speaking they shouldn't restrict the use of a S.1 shotgun to specific land; I think you will find that in the 'guidance' somewhere so I would politely ask them if they could remove the closed condition. Thumpersniper
if you are offered to go shooting on some other land, but have a closed ticket, can you get permission from the police at short notice for a one off? cheers, SP
tungsten
If the land is already cleared for the calibre you want to use it should be just a case of the police checking their records and giving you the nod, if not they will need to send someone out. Thats how I understand it from my own experience. As I said earlier the ground I listed when applying for my FAC was passed earlier, but they still sent out an officer to check. Greenhunter
Logic says that its a mistake. A S1 shotgun only shoots as far as any other shotgun so doesn't need the land to be checked. Get it checked out with your FEO.

Breastman
How did he wangle an S1 on a closed FAC anyway??? He already had the S1 for PSG and clays, the vermin was just added recently. Mark
