Billy.
Just for those who don't know what a mess this gun makes. Here's what came out of my PES mod after 500 rounds.

stevethevanman
Man I shot about 500 rounds through my sak on my HMR and when I came to clean it it was like opening a bag of soot ...as there is always really hard deposites I was thinkin of washing with thinners or acetone, basically the same thing Steve Edited May 26, 2009 by stevethevanman
casts_by_fly
Every other time I take my Sak out I give it a strip down when I come home. If I'm plinking on targets then every time. There is always a bunch of soot and/or unburnt powder from the 22. Witht he Sak, the best I've found is a 12 ga cotton bore swab sprayed with WD-40 or gun cleaner. It fits right into the baffles of the Sak. A heavy rag takes care of the outside. Thanks Rick
Dunkield
Does it make a difference though? I have only cleaned my SAK twice in 6 years and both times I wondered why I was actually doing it
wildfowler.250
Just out of interest, I was wondering how you would go about cleaning a reflex mod on your .17 hmr? mines had a few hundred rounds through it by now aswell and its starting to get pretty loud? would that be due to dirt in the mod? casts_by_fly
Does it make a difference though?I have only cleaned my SAK twice in 6 years and both times I wondered why I was actually doing it  Stuart, I clean it because if I don't clean it the crud gets on the rifle's threads and makes it tougher to get off next time. I like having easy to screw/unscrew for anything I have threaded whether it is a moderator or simple nut and bolt. Thanks, Rick

Does your wife know how often you maintain your scrotum???

IAN88
Would a hw moderator on a FAC air need cleaning (deposits of lead ?)
Dunkield
I clean it because if I don't clean it the crud gets on the rifle's threads and makes it tougher to get off next time. Unless it gets wet is stays on the rifle most of the time, so crud can't get into the threads.
MC
Didn't your other half get upset with you cleaning it in the bathroom sink? I cannot get my S A K apart so I doubt it will ever get cleaned. When it gets so clogged up the the bullets don't come out I will get another one.
Billy. My PES is not a full reflex mod. It isn't over the barrel, but it does have a reflective baffle, so it's really not that difficult to clean. I wouldn't try and clean my Wildcat reflex with warm soapy water, nor would I put it on a .17!
casts_by_fly
Unless it gets wet is stays on the rifle most of the time, so crud can't get into the threads. stuart, The threads on my rifle are long enough that the last 2 are beyond the inside end of the threading on the Sak. So the crud I'm talking about building up on the threads is the soot and unburnt powder. Thanks, Rick
