Chard
The carrying box the originals came in is blue, the box for the newer ones is clear plastic, like this. Maybe the clear ones are more comfortable, they may even be made from silicon? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. The ones in the picture are rock hard. I've got a pair of them somewhere, only wore them once, I was in agony. They're the self-tapping screw ones. I fell for the picture, because, as you say, they look OK and you assume they're soft. When I got hold of one and realised it was hard plastic, I realised that I'd cocked up The box is exactly like that, it's sort of a whitish/opaque plastic with a genuine 24 carat gold chain :o Edited July 9, 2009 by Chard

Chard
Good God, it's a minefield Indeed it is. The earplugs are as lethal as the guns

Markio
I'm going for the moulded in ear types, green leopard, Emtec style. It just to happens there's an Emtec dealer (for want of a better word) in Colchester so i'm paying them a visit next week. Met a few people with them and they are very happy with theirs. Getting fed up with the crappy in ear ones that's for sure, and the over the ear jobbies (that i think works a treat) get in the way of my stock and i can't mount the gun correctly/if at all. Dunkield
Good God, it's a minefield See if you can find the extended test one of the BBS'ers did recently John, it goes on a bit but has some good info in it.
MadMatt1979
Got a set of Green Leopard ones 4 years ago at the CLA last time it was at Belvoir. Think they cost me about £85 with the accoustic filters in them (so you can hear people talking to you but they stop the louder noises). Well worth every penny, would recommend them highly. Trouble is I have no excuse for ignoring the wife now!!!!!!!
flytie
I bought some emtec ones about 8 years ago, they work well enough. http://www.noisebreaker.co.uk/ ft
Klunk
Tried Napier Pro9/10's yet? They're kind of like soft ear plugs on a bent stick which holds them in place. Feels a bit like standing there with someone else's fingers in your ears. I just got a pair of pro 10's last weekend, so haven't used 'em much yet, just once in the gallery, but will be trying 'em on the clays tonight. JT1
As said in previous posts, this touches areas of my work, I use Peltor Sportacs at around £130, they react immediately to the shot, but you benefit from the pickup mics, so can hear pidgies coming or things rustling in the woods. Also use custom moulded earplugs from a specialist in the F1/Music industry, these have a filter to act the same way but do not amplify noise. again £130 per pair, will last years and they keep the ear canal impressions in case you require more. pm if you require further details. neil smith
Another +1 for the green leopards, I have had mine since 2004 & they still look like new, they get used every time im on the range, if you want to keep the cost down then dont have the filters fitted, I had mine fitted after I had been using them for a while & to be honest there is not much difference from how they were before & how they are now, so if buying them again I would not bother with the filters & save some cash. They come in a handy storage box which means they are easy to store & it keeps them clean, they are so comfy you forget they are there, I can wear them all day no problem, they also can be mixed in bright multi colours so you dont lose them in the woods Get Some. Diceman
Hate the muff type, I always seem to clang the stock on them when mounting (cue Carry On Shooting type sniggers) and always get earache with the in-ear jobs, until I discovered the Napier pro10 - comfortable and very effective, top marks from me. edr
I have peltor sport-tacs. i brought from cabelas and had them posted to me from america, when the pound to dollar rate was good they were cheap; I brought two pairs for £100. they're the best shooting product i have brought. Don't know how much they are now but well worth it, I can stand on the side of a wood pigeon shooting and hear the birds flying over before i can even see them, a great advantage.
