Baldrick
You must sign whatever notification letter/form you submit. I send all mine by fax, so that I get verification of receipt. You can of course email a scanned copy of a signed letter/form.

Marley29
I just send an email to my force (essex) with the info required too. Never had a problem and I'm sure your force will be the same. Just ask them to reply so that you have confirmation. You will also have the email saved in the sent folder.

Guest
I am in East Kent and the way that I have always notified my FEO of a weapons purchase is: scanned the receipt from the shop I purchased it from with my name, weapon make, type and serial number and sent it as an attachement with an e-mail. Never had a problem with it, my FEO is a very nice and understanding guy.
Condor
I am just about to notify on my first gun and am going to use the standard form that was enclosed with my cert., do the licensing dept. ever fill in the rear of the Cert ? ( table 1 ) or do I do that ?. AFAIK, The Firearms Dealer / seller of the gun fills in the details on the certificate....there should be a full record of all guns owned by you on this certificate. You have to notifiy your local force of any purchases and disposals within 7 days, in writing or by email, and also see to it that the SGC is completed accurately with the guns serial number, date and description by the dealer or seller. Lots of dealers print off a letter for you to send to the police, so you don't even have to do it yourself - just sign and send. Enjoy your new gun! Gunny
AFAIK, The Firearms Dealer / seller of the gun fills in the details on the certificate.... So I presume in the case of a private sale the seller puts the make / serial on the buyer's cert. and just crosses through those details of their own cert? Condor
So I presume in the case of a private sale the seller puts the make / serial on the buyer's cert. and just crosses through those details of their own cert? I believe so - other than signing your certif and crossing through any sold guns, my understanding is that you don't write anything else on it - the seller or the selling dealer do.
