Weekend on the peas

Saturday

I went to our most southerly permissions for a reccy and to find out from the farmers what their intentions were over the next couple of weeks (combining, cutting etc.)

No pigeons in any great numbers anywhere, and after driving over 90 miles I returned nearer to home to see how my partner was fareing. He had clocked a fair few pigeons dropping onto some peas, and we set up our hide and deeks.

We shot steady up till 5.00pm and ended up with 78 pigeons. The birds had virtually all disappeared and we decided to drop off at a farm on the way home and try and get a couple of foxes for a farmer who had rang me. We dropped half a dozen pigeons in 2 spots and then drove 100 yards up the field and sat in the jeep waiting.

After 3/4 hour, 2 foxes appeared about 25 yards away from 1 pile of pigeons. Alan was in the shooting seat and dropped 1 fox and the other shot into the hedgerow. We called and waited for another hour or so and then decided to head back home.

Sunday

We went out early to sort out some blackies at a couple of barns but on arrival we found only a handful, so went drive-abouts. We dropped in to a number of farms for a chat and finally after not finding much about we went back to some more pea fields and found a couple of hundred flitting about. We set up and had birds coming in after a short wait and had shot 38 by 1.00pm. Then Alan had to go and meet a pw mwmber to sell a puppy. ( What a nightmare that nearly was.)

See off topic post

Upon his return for the second time I had bumped the total up to 102, and we carried on till it started to hiss down and finished up with 129.

207 pigeons and a "basil "for the weekend.

Roll on the stubbles.

Nice one Dave :good: It's good to see that you and other PW members getting out and about.

I haven't been on the site for a while but after reading all the new posts there seems to be very little pigeon shooting going on at what is the best time of the year for it other than roost shooting :good:
