I have been talking to some people here on this forum about selling guns to the boys and girls across the pond, but make it to benefit the members of this forum only.. I can get an FFL (Federal Fire Arms License) but how difficult could this become? I expect to here from swift4me, and the rest of hi tech lads.. i am just wondering if this would, and could work?

I would have assumed that the export and import regime, in terms of time and costs, would make this untenable, Lee. Had the favourable USD:GBP exchange rate remained, then it may have made more sense.

Should you get the venture up and running, I have a little shopping list to send through to you (a Dakota Longbow, several Coopers etc).

It can be more trouble that it's worth unless you are talking about more expensive guns.

I attended a FrontSight course in Nevada last year where I was given a Springfield XD as part of the package. I found an FFL with an export licence willing to get is shipped to Northern Ireland for me but it was going to cost $350 USD to him plus another £150 GBP duty to import it this end. (In the end I sold it to another trainee for $450).

The export price was going to be about the same if it was a big ticket gun it may be worth it but not for your average gun. Also there will be import duty as it is outside the EU.

depends what you want to send; if its guns its a complete nightmare, but if its stocks and accessories, etc, you can always ship them over as a present which, i think, is legal....

Hello Robert.. I still may get the FFL so ican get guns cheap, but would have thought it cool to have an over seas PW gun sales connection.

Nope, me neither, infact about the worst thing Lee could do would be send me TWO secondhand :hmm: McMillan or Manners stocks as belated birthday gifts :hmm: to me  That'd be just bloody shocking altogether, don't think I could cope!

(Mind you, depending on how this new licensing system goes I mightn't have a ****** gun to put into them ???).

i know,it really doesnt bear thinking about, especially as you know he would be paying less than half of what we would here :hmm:

Did you know scope rings are on the list of items restricted for export by US trade dept, I tried to order last week and was sent a whole list of items that are considered items required to make "a firearm function" it includes stocks, spring kts etc.

I`d be a little careful Lee you may get Arnie knocking on your door :hmm:

I think customs may get suspicious of all the gifts coming this way, then they may notify the IRS as to why Lee has more relatives in the UK than the average American has in Ireland :hmm:

You just never know how many nephews i might have over the pond :hmm: Let me look into this anyway..

Yeah for guns to be exported to the Uk they not only have to have export licence but also have to be proofed by a company recognised by the Government here in the UK since I spoke to the shop where I bought my guns from. They receive guns form America and have to get the proofed at a London warehouse since American proof certificates and marks apparently don't apply in Britain.

It sucks: There are so many guns I would love to buy from America. :hmm:

as noted, shipping and import/export costs would make it prohibitive. I've read (but not confirmed) that the export license has gone up to $30K regardless of whether it is 1 gun or many.

As to gifts and second hand- it doesn't matter for import. Gifts are still liable for import duty (over 35 GBP value). Second hand items are also. Anything coming in of value can be hit with import duty. Sometimes you get pulled, sometimes you don't.

Thanks,

Rick
