Need a bit more help on my rat problem

Hey ya guys. I need to get out on the farm asap to get the rats. They are getting into our calves nut feeders and messing in them. We have had a lot of sick cows now and we think this is due to the rats. I know the main points on the farm where they nest and hide.

Ive started setting out a few lids with peanut butter on them around 5pm when I leave work and most of it has gone by 7am when I get to work the next morning.

My problem is I dont have a lamp. Now I could stay at the farm and hang around when it is quite and sit and wait. Problem with that is I have a few other priorities I have to atend to. I.e dogs feeding and walking.

I cant afford a gun mounted lamp at the moment so what can I use instead?

Thanks guys.

Sammy, What type of gun are you using? If it's an air rifle (With a 1 inch scope) why not try something like an X-Verminator scope light with free-stock mounted pressure switch. I have one that I don't use any more and will send a PM with my contact details if you want to try it.

Hi Again Sammy, Here is a photo of the lamp mounted on my Winchester. I don't use it any more so if you wanted to buy it you could make me an offer. (Nothing silly, just cover the postage and a couple of pounds for the lamp and spare batteries).

Edit: Heck it will not let me add a photo, hope this works: Try clicking on this link for the photo:

We had rats coming into the garden so i left a light on in the shed which lite up a small patch on the lawn then i bated the patch with corn after a few days they got used to the light and i shot them out of the window with the air rifle i've shot loads and rarly see any these days the left over corn is taken by the birds in the daylight so no probs there.

Right. Thanks for Frenchie I now have a lamp on its way to me! Thank you again!

When I've hopefully shot a few rats in the next few nights whats the best way to go.

I mean when I've shot them where they are feeding... do I leave them or pick them up? Will the dead rats put the others off or are they greedy beggers?

I'm sure you know already Sam but just in case while you are waiting for the gun light to arrive why not start baiting with some corn and maybe a bit of small dog biscuits in the area that is best to "ambush them in? Another alternative is to "tread" small patches of peanut butter into the ground!
