Peter De La Mare
You'll be able to mix them up, so 2k 7.5s, or a mix.. 1k 7.5s and 500 of 8s and or 9s etc. 7.5s for DTL mainly, sporting can use any cart depending on the target presentation. I shoot 7.5s at everything however.
bobby b
I was thinking of getting all 8's would this be ok?
Peter De La Mare
Should be, unless you find yourself shooting somewhere that like 40yard edge on crossers a lot. 8s will be ok for DTL as well, but maybe not for any of the other trap disciplines. Mungler tends to use 8s for everything if I recall, and he always produces good results.
bobby b
Thanks, the main sporting club i use only runs in the summer so there is only about 2 shoots left so it will just be dtl from then on till next july so i think i will just get the 8's. Peter De La Mare
so it will just be dtl from then on till next july I'm very sorry to hear that. What do the rest of the guys who shoot DTL at your ground use?

Chard
I'm starting to use 8's more and more, even for long stuff. There's something to be said for having more shot up there Been known to sneak a few 9's in now and again :look: Edited August 26, 2009 by Chard
Nicky T
I shoot a 50/50 split of 7.5's and 9's in an average round of Sporting; that said i do always have a handful extra of each size just incase one is better suited to the range and presentations of targets on offer. You might also be surprised at how well 9's work brilliantly on high driven clays
bobby b
Well thats what i thought surely the more shot up there the better
Peter De La Mare
Well thats what i thought surely the more shot up there the better :look: That's true, if the bird is showing it's belly or face..... not quite so when edge on, or a Rabbit edge on in the air, and if it's a way out then your 9s will bounce of it. There was an example of this just last week at Mid Wales where 7.5s weren't man enough for the job.

There was an example of this just last week at Mid Wales where 7.5s weren't man enough for the job. I shot at that target, but it was peculiar, you wouldn't normally get one like that. It was a rabbit clay (solid as a house brick ) lobbed high in the air as a looper, it wasn't edge on. It showed you the whole flat side :look: . Quite hard to miss, if you have an eye for a long range looper. It either needed 6's or a full choke. If you hit it with enough small shot through a full choke, it broke (in half) Edited August 26, 2009 by Chard
utectok
I'm shooting 21gm 8s (gamebore) they seem a good alround cart ann break anything I can point my gun at. Cheap too. :look:
motty
Most of the top clay shots stick exclusively to 7.5 or 8 shot.
MC
Most of the top clay shots stick exclusively to 7.5 or 8 shot. No we don't I use more 9's than anything else at sporting. Today at Dartford I used 75 9's and 25 7.5's and the latter was only because I have just bought some Lyalvale English Sporter to try out and they only do a 7.5. They were a good clean cartridge that killed well.
