Dan73
Hi All I'm quite interested in buying a gun advertised here, buts its too far to travel to - so I need to look at the RFD to RFD scenario. Only having purchased guns locally before I'm unsure how this works - if we say that I buy a gun privately from someone in (for example) Scotland how does the logistics work? They take to an RFD who sends it to my local RFD and I collect it from them? What I'm really interested in is how much this all costs (on average) - does the first RFD get paid, then the courier then my local RFD? I'm just wondering as the gun I'm interested in is quite cheap, but the RFD costs could substantially increase the total cost.... Thanks for your help and patience Cheers Dan73
LostWomble
The RFD you are buying from usually wants something for the courier (£15 seems average) and the recieving RFD may want something for the paperwork. I used to use one who charged £20 but now I use a club member who does if free for other members.
Heladoxa
Hello Dan 73, Why don't you go and have a word with your RDF and then you will know first hand. Bill

J@mes
You pay the seller for the gun (including all charges at his end, which is the courier charges and possibly the RFD handling charge) He gives the gun to his RFD His RFD sends it by courier to your RFD Your RFD will put it on his books and probably charge you £25 for it You pay your RFD the fee and he gives you the gun. I bought a gun from a member here in Scotland and it all went very smoothly, and he was very helpful answering all my questions and worries as I was slightly concerned about sending £750 to someone I'd never met, 250 miles away! Buy from someone who has a lot of posts on here and seems to have a good reputation and you lower the risks of getting stitched up. You don't remove them, just lower. If you can't afford the hit if you do get stung, travel for the gun.

Glensman
Like Babby, I was quoted £50 for an RFD by a large dealer in South-East Antrim...
clayman
Only one RFD is required, not two. Your local RFD ( if you are the buyer) has to complete your certificate, but RFD's can also collect guns by secure carrier through arrangements like the Gun Trade Assn arrangements with TNT. As long as your local RFD has secure carriage arrangements, and the seller is prepared to pack the gun for carriage, your local RFD can arrange for TNT to collect the gun directly from the seller. You will pay them carriage and an admin fee. The seller notifies their FLD of transfer to the RFD, and the RFD notifies transfer to the buyer's SGC
